John 1:1-18
Jesus is the true representation of God
Pastor Kyle Borger
John 1:1-5 (NIV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was
God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has
been made. 4 In him was life, and that life
was the light of all mankind. 5 The light
shines in the darkness, and the darkness
has not overcome it.
John 1:9-13 (NIV)
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was
coming into the world. 10 He was in the world,
and though the world was made through him,
the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to
that which was his own, but his own did not
receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him,
to those who believed in his name, he gave the
right to become children of God— 13 children
born not of natural descent, nor of human
decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
John 1:16-18 (NIV)
16 Out of his fullness we have all
received grace in place of grace already
given. 17 For the law was given through
Moses; grace and truth came through
Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen
God, but the one and only Son, who is
himself God and is in closest relationship
with the Father, has made him known.
Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV)
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind
in our image, in our likeness, so that they
may rule over the fish in the sea and the
birds in the sky, over the livestock and all
the wild animals, and over all the
creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own
image, in the image of God he created
them; male and female he created them.
Romans 1:18-23 (NIV)
18 The wrath of God is being revealed
from heaven against all the godlessness
and wickedness of people, who suppress
the truth by their wickedness, 19 since
what may be known about God is plain to
them, because God has made it plain to
them.
Romans 1:18-23 (NIV)
20 For since the creation of the world
God’s invisible qualities—his eternal
power and divine nature—have been
clearly seen, being understood from what
has been made, so that people are
without excuse. 21 For although they
knew God, they neither glorified him as
God nor gave thanks to him, but their
thinking became futile and their foolish
hearts were darkened.
Romans 1:18-23 (NIV)
22 Although they claimed to be wise, they
became fools 23 and exchanged the glory
of the immortal God for images made to
look like a mortal human being and birds
and animals and reptiles.
Romans 1:28-32 (NIV)
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think
it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of
God, so God gave them over to a
depraved mind, so that they do what
ought not to be done. 29 They have
become filled with every kind of
wickedness, evil, greed and depravity.
They are full of envy, murder, strife,
deceit and malice. They are gossips
Romans 1:28-32 (NIV)
30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent,
arrogant and boastful; they invent ways
of doing evil; they disobey their parents;
31 they have no understanding, no
fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although
they know God’s righteous decree that
those who do such things deserve death,
they not only continue to do these very
things but also approve of those who
practice them.
Matthew 26:36-46 (NIV)
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to
a place called Gethsemane, and he said
to them, “Sit here while I go over there
and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two
sons of Zebedee along with him, and he
began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38
Then he said to them, “My soul is
overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of
death. Stay here and keep watch with
me.”
Matthew 26:36-46 (NIV)
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his
face to the ground and prayed, “My
Father, if it is possible, may this cup be
taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as
you will.” 40 Then he returned to his
disciples and found them sleeping.
“Couldn’t you men keep watch with me
for one hour?” he asked Peter.
Matthew 26:36-46 (NIV)
41 “Watch and pray so that you will not
fall into temptation. The spirit is willing,
but the flesh is weak.” 42 He went away a
second time and prayed, “My Father, if it
is not possible for this cup to be taken
away unless I drink it, may your will be
done.” 43 When he came back, he again
found them sleeping, because their eyes
were heavy.
Matthew 26:36-46 (NIV)
44 So he left them and went away once
more and prayed the third time, saying
the same thing. 45 Then he returned to
the disciples and said to them, “Are you
still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour
has come, and the Son of Man is
delivered into the hands of sinners. 46
Rise! Let us go! Here comes my
betrayer!”
Matthew 9:9-13 (NIV)
9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a
man named Matthew sitting at the tax
collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told
him, and Matthew got up and followed
him. 10 While Jesus was having dinner at
Matthew’s house, many tax collectors
and sinners came and ate with him and
his disciples..”
Matthew 9:9-13 (NIV)
11 When the Pharisees saw this, they
asked his disciples, “Why does your
teacher eat with tax collectors and
sinners?” 12 On hearing this, Jesus said,
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor,
but the sick. 13 But go and learn what
this means: ‘I desire mercy, not
sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the
righteous, but sinners.”
Luke 19:1-10 (NIV)
19 Jesus entered Jericho and was
passing through. 2 A man was there by
the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief
tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He
wanted to see who Jesus was, but
because he was short he could not see
over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and
climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him,
since Jesus was coming that way.
Luke 19:1-10 (NIV)
5 When Jesus reached the spot, he
looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus,
come down immediately. I must stay at
your house today.” 6 So he came down
at once and welcomed him gladly. 7 All
the people saw this and began to mutter,
“He has gone to be the guest of a
sinner.”
Luke 19:1-10 (NIV)
8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the
Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give
half of my possessions to the poor, and if
I have cheated anybody out of anything, I
will pay back four times the amount.” 9
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has
come to this house, because this man,
too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son
of Man came to seek and to save the
lost.”

Sermon 12.30.12 - Jesus Represents God - John 1:1-18

  • 1. 12.30.12 John 1:1-18 Jesus is the true representation of God Pastor Kyle Borger

  • 4.
  • 5.
  • 6. John 1:1-5 (NIV) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
  • 7. John 1:9-13 (NIV) 9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
  • 8. John 1:16-18 (NIV) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
  • 9. Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV) 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
  • 10. Romans 1:18-23 (NIV) 18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
  • 11. Romans 1:18-23 (NIV) 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
  • 12. Romans 1:18-23 (NIV) 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
  • 13. Romans 1:28-32 (NIV) 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips
  • 14. Romans 1:28-32 (NIV) 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

  • 16. Matthew 26:36-46 (NIV) 36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”
  • 17. Matthew 26:36-46 (NIV) 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” 40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.
  • 18. Matthew 26:36-46 (NIV) 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” 43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy.
  • 19. Matthew 26:36-46 (NIV) 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. 45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
  • 20. Matthew 9:9-13 (NIV) 9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. 10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples..”
  • 21. Matthew 9:9-13 (NIV) 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
  • 22. Luke 19:1-10 (NIV) 19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
  • 23. Luke 19:1-10 (NIV) 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. 7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
  • 24. Luke 19:1-10 (NIV) 8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
