3. His biggest point was
that the LGBT
community isn’t out
for world domination,
they just want the
rights that the
constitution has
already given them.
His point is that
people are people, and
deserve to be treated
as such.

4. LZ Granderson was born
on March 11, 1972 in
Detroit Michigan. From a
young age, he knew he
was gay, but in fear kept it
to himself until much
later. He still lives in
Michigan with his partner
and 15 year old son.

LZ grabbed my attention fairly early, and after a bit of a
lull, he hooked me all the way in. He began by
referencing “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” which caught my
attention, as I was curious as to where he was going. I lost
focus for a minute, but when he began to sarcastically go
through the “Evil Gay Lifestyle,” I began to hang on his
every word.
6. For the remainder of the
presentation, his sarcastic and
humorous remarks and double-
standards kept me fully
committed. You could tell that
he was nervous in the beginning,
but once he warmed up and the
audience started laughing, his
true presentation abilities came
through.

7. THE TED COMMANDMENTS
LZ went out on that stage and opened himself to the
audience. In a time and place where announcing your
homosexuality is a crap shoot, LZ showed courage and
trust in his fellow human beings. He told us stories, made
us laugh, and got us thinking in only 17 minutes of his
time. Imagine what he could get us thinking and doing
with more. LZ Granderson showed all of the Ted
Commandments.
8. LZ showed me that
opening up to the
audience about yourself
and trusting them to
accept you for it can be
a very affective way to
push yourself past ‘okay’
and into ‘great.’

I would recommend people try to be honest about
themselves when presenting. It shows the audience
that you trust them, and it will engage them more.
You also need to be a little light hearted though, even
in serious topics. We can’t be serious all the time.
We are all human.
10. Although LZ wasn’t as
funny as Sir Ken Robinson,
he did have a more serious
and personal issue. He
opened himself up to the
audience than Sir
Robinson did, and had a
great presentation because
of it.
