Executive Summary
The purpose of The College of Engineering Student Council (COESC) is to unite and allow collaboration
between the various engineering societies and students. The COESC also provides guidance to the
College of Engineering students to increase their participation in UTSA campus life, activities and events.

On the week of March 22nd through 26th, 2010, The COESC will be hosting the 2nd annual Engineering San
Antonio Week. This all inclusive event will help the COESC achieve its goal of developing events that
promote the engineering talents of the students to the entire UTSA campus.

COESC Description
The COESC is the student voice of The University of Texas at San Antonio’s College of Engineering (COE).
We are designed to serve and promote interaction among students and the engineering community. We
are also classified as a non-profit organization.

COESC Objectives

        • To unite and allow collaboration between the various engineering societies and students

        • Help strengthen each society, promote student benefits, and encourage membership

        • Further student participation in student activities, competitions, and conferences

        • Serve as a means of communication between engineering students, faculty, and
administrators to provide an opportunity for the student body to voice concerns and
            present ideas for COE improvement

        • Provide an opportunity for societies to voice concerns, present ideas for COE improvement,
and in so doing, help voice the concerns and ideas of the general engineering student body

        • Guide the COE students into greater participation in the UTSA life, including campus events

Organization Achievements
EWB works with the Peace Corps and are currently helping out on an engineering project in Bolivia. Just
like their Bolivia projects, they travel to other locations and provide assistance on numerous projects.

SMAES holds annual community outreach events such as dream runners, science extravaganza, and
AT&T high tech day. In these events they gather students from elementary to high school and introduce
them to the world of engineering and the possibilities it holds for them. Also, SMAES attends two
national conferences every year to build networking relations and leadership skills.

SWE does yearly community outreach events such as “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day,” “Math
Counts,” “GEAR,” and “Woman’s History Month Fair.” They also annually attend the SWE Region C
Conference to promote networking between students and professionals. Along with that, they plan and
run a workshop to enable local Girl Scout troops to earn a “technology badge.”

SHPE annually attends a national conference in the fall in which students attends workshops and
networking events. In preparation to this national conference, they hold resume workshops to help their
members stand out in the STEM field and have a better chance to achieve scholarships and internships.
Along with that, SHPE is currently working on starting new annual community outreach events such as
“Urban Connections,” “Habitat for Humanity,” and “SHPE Junior”

IEEE recently created a community outreach program in which they promote engineering and college to
prospective students.

SAE has a formula one team that competes yearly in California. Along with teaching prospective
students about formula one cars and the manufacturing process of it. They also participate in
community outreach events throughout the year to promote math and science.

  • 3. Executive Summary The purpose of The College of Engineering Student Council (COESC) is to unite and allow collaboration between the various engineering societies and students. The COESC also provides guidance to the College of Engineering students to increase their participation in UTSA campus life, activities and events. On the week of March 22nd through 26th, 2010, The COESC will be hosting the 2nd annual Engineering San Antonio Week. This all inclusive event will help the COESC achieve its goal of developing events that promote the engineering talents of the students to the entire UTSA campus. COESC Description The COESC is the student voice of The University of Texas at San Antonio’s College of Engineering (COE). We are designed to serve and promote interaction among students and the engineering community. We are also classified as a non-profit organization. COESC Objectives • To unite and allow collaboration between the various engineering societies and students • Help strengthen each society, promote student benefits, and encourage membership • Further student participation in student activities, competitions, and conferences • Serve as a means of communication between engineering students, faculty, and administrators to provide an opportunity for the student body to voice concerns and present ideas for COE improvement • Provide an opportunity for societies to voice concerns, present ideas for COE improvement, and in so doing, help voice the concerns and ideas of the general engineering student body • Guide the COE students into greater participation in the UTSA life, including campus events 3|Page

  • 5. Organization Achievements EWB works with the Peace Corps and are currently helping out on an engineering project in Bolivia. Just like their Bolivia projects, they travel to other locations and provide assistance on numerous projects. SMAES holds annual community outreach events such as dream runners, science extravaganza, and AT&T high tech day. In these events they gather students from elementary to high school and introduce them to the world of engineering and the possibilities it holds for them. Also, SMAES attends two national conferences every year to build networking relations and leadership skills. SWE does yearly community outreach events such as “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day,” “Math Counts,” “GEAR,” and “Woman’s History Month Fair.” They also annually attend the SWE Region C Conference to promote networking between students and professionals. Along with that, they plan and run a workshop to enable local Girl Scout troops to earn a “technology badge.” SHPE annually attends a national conference in the fall in which students attends workshops and networking events. In preparation to this national conference, they hold resume workshops to help their members stand out in the STEM field and have a better chance to achieve scholarships and internships. Along with that, SHPE is currently working on starting new annual community outreach events such as “Urban Connections,” “Habitat for Humanity,” and “SHPE Junior” IEEE recently created a community outreach program in which they promote engineering and college to prospective students. SAE has a formula one team that competes yearly in California. Along with teaching prospective students about formula one cars and the manufacturing process of it. They also participate in community outreach events throughout the year to promote math and science. 5|Page
