How can I use this feature to enhance my organization?Where does this specific feature fit within the collaboration spectrum? What do I need to know about this? What is the competitive marketplace? How do I determine if this is a good fit for my organization?
Social is a smaller piece of collaboration and varying levels of communication that can be utilized throughout your organization.
The foundation of IM started with the interconnected computers in the 1960s-70s and rapidly picked up adoption when graphic user interfaces were added in the 1990s. Think back to AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), which I've still seen in use today within a corporation. This communication method revolutionized how people could instantaneously communicate with others around the world, is still used today in many formats, but is overlooked by many organizations as an integral part of an information management strategy. As a result, most intellectual Property is flushed away in an individual’s IM cache after they've had a creative, innovative and/or problem solving conversation.
QUESTION: How do you think IM is being used today?
The point of this slide is to demonstrate that even though the user interface of a Unified communications systems may look as simple and as easy to use as Instant Messaging, there is a lot of infrastructure that needs to be implemented to make it happen. Confusing isn’t it.
