Introduction (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This lesson was developed in a mixture of lessons I had at Legacy High School in Broomfield, CO and my own mind. This lesson is designed to help students improve their professional and persuasive speaking skills. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion In the world today, speaking is becoming more and more important. No matter what your career is, there is a situation in which you will have to speak in public, in front of colleagues, or in a small group. Being able to persuade people is an effective and useful tool. In this assignment you will practice this skill and learn the real world applications of persuasive speaking. You will take on the role of a travel agent and use the Internet to research a country, and present it to your classmates (clients).
Learners (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This lesson is designed for really any high school grade speech class. It is designed to help students see the real world applications of speech. The persuasive and professional aspects of this presentation will also help to hone the students’ skills. Prior to beginning students will need to know how to research using databases and search engines. Also they will need to know how to format a speech and how to make an outline. The Process (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion Day 1: First step is to decide on a country (Use Mr. C’s handouts and maps) Ensure there are good sources. Once you have decided on a country, use the approved website list to find which websites have the best information on a certain country Note: If you find another website on the list, run it by Mr. C before using as a source. Day 2: Use this day to continue your research and begin looking at information that might become your 5 points of interest. Make sure to do checks with students on topics. Day 3: After the third day of research, be sure to find and turn in the 5 reasons of interest to Mr. C. Day 4: The next day in the computer lab will be used for the overview of brochure that we will be creating. We will be using Microsoft Word to create this handout for the class. Maybe have Lab tech do demonstration on MS Word and making a brochure. Day 5: Create the brochure, being sure to include your 5 points of interest, general facts about the country, and picture or location on map. Day 6: Note cards will be the aid used in this speech. So the next step is to write either an outline or the actual speech on your note cards to use during the speech. Day 7: The brochures are due today. We will have the class period in the lab to help everyone finish. A printed copy is due to Mr. C by the end of the hour. Day 8: First day of presentations is today. Be sure to have all the material you need Day 9: Final day of presentations (Hopefully…)
