Introduction (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This lesson was developed in a mixture of lessons I had at Legacy High School in Broomfield, CO and my own mind. This lesson is designed to help students improve their professional and persuasive speaking skills. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion In the world today, speaking is becoming more and more important. No matter what your career is, there is a situation in which you will have to speak in public, in front of colleagues, or in a small group. Being able to persuade people is an effective and useful tool. In this assignment you will practice this skill and learn the real world applications of persuasive speaking. You will take on the role of a travel agent and use the Internet to research a country, and present it to your classmates (clients).

Once you have decided on a country, use the approved website list to find which websites have the best information on a certain country Note: If you find another website on the list, run it by Mr. C before using as a source. Day 2: Use this day to continue your research and begin looking at information that might become your 5 points of interest. Make sure to do checks with students on topics. Day 3: After the third day of research, be sure to find and turn in the 5 reasons of interest to Mr. C. Day 4: The next day in the computer lab will be used for the overview of brochure that we will be creating. We will be using Microsoft Word to create this handout for the class. Maybe have Lab tech do demonstration on MS Word and making a brochure. Day 5: Create the brochure, being sure to include your 5 points of interest, general facts about the country, and picture or location on map. Day 6: Note cards will be the aid used in this speech. So the next step is to write either an outline or the actual speech on your note cards to use during the speech. Day 7: The brochures are due today. We will have the class period in the lab to help everyone finish. A printed copy is due to Mr. C by the end of the hour. Day 8: First day of presentations is today. Make sure to clarify questions and display an agenda. Help students to pick topic and country of interest. Day 2: Show students brief demo of one of the approved sites. Monitor and help when necessary. Make sure to explain that 5 points of interest are due next class Day 3: Last day to research for 5 points of interest. Students must turn them in by end of period. Day 4: MS word demo. Have Lab para be prepared to present. Afterwards, be able to help the students that need assistance in creating the brochure. Day 5: Assist in brochure making. Make the speech schedule so students know when they will go. Day 6: Note cards or outline are due by end of hour. Have examples to show students. Next class period is last time to work on brochures. Day 7: make sure all students are caught up and ready to turn in brochures. Day 8: First day of presentations.
