- Challenge: The transition to a low carbon economy will require a vast array of small and large decisions made by a range of governments, corporations and communities. But currently they are forced to make these with only very partial information. To unlock reliable, scaleable, open participatory mechanisms to achieve trust and informed decision making we need to pool the assets and capabilities of researchers in public and private sectors, NGOs, think tanks, academia and earth observation institutions.Solution: Planetary Skin a massive global-monitoring system of environmental conditions enabling effective decision making in the private and public sectors and in communities, with data that is collected from space to airborne to terrestrial sensor networks, analysed, verified and reported over an intelligent web 2.0 platform. Launched March 3rd 2009: a public/private partnership to research and develop a global monitoring system for reporting environmental conditions.
