Christian View of Statment 'Honesty is the Best Policy'
This essay will discuss whether 'honesty is the best policy'. It is written through the eyes of a
Christian, and will often refer to the Bible. The essay will bring up biblical matters, and also issues
that affect the lives of others and ourselves, that relate to honesty.
Being honest has many benefits. In the Bible, it states many times that 'honest people are blessed'
for example Psalm 112. The Bible also states that 'when a man is honest he will receive love and
kindness'
(Psalm 112). The wicked will not like the honest and will hate and try to destroy them. But the
word of the Lord has promised, 'The wishes of the wicked will come to nothing' (Psalm 112: 10). The

When we trust someone with something, and they go and tell a different version and start spreading
rumours about us we lose faith in them and become very wary not to tell them anything important.
Once again if they had told the truth, the friendship wouldn't have been damaged. Although we may
forgive them, we still take a long time to come to trust them again. In Jeremiah 23, the Lord says that
he will punish false prophets. The Lord hates rumour mongers.
Surely sometimes it's all right to lie. What if you are doing something in secret, for example, a
surprise party and some one asks you what it is? There is no need to lie you can simply tell them
that 'you are unable to tell them as it is confidential'. Some of you will be asking, 'What if it's a
matter of life and death, that is, to lie and live, or to tell the truth and die. When in this situation, tell
the truth and God will provide (Proverbs 3: 5–6). It may not be easy, but stop and think. Is telling a
lie and living the rest of your life, then being thrown into the depths of hell for eternity better or
worse, than telling the truth, being killed, and spending the rest of eternity with God in heaven?
You have to live with yourself. When you lie, you go through life with a small part of your
conscience feeling guilty. It is like a disease, as you feel very much at dis–ease. This small guilt
grows and grows, causing misery which many people hide.

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY
Honesty, the quality of being honest, is a value which can be defined in multiple ways. In the context
of human communication, people are generally said to be honest when they tell the truth to the best
of their knowledge and do not hide what they know or think. Apart from being truthful, honesty is
also generally thought to involve abstaining from unfair behavior, such as stealing or cheating on a
test. It is the quality to tell the truth when it is not easy to tell.
I'd like to tell you a little story to illustrate my point.
Once a General Manager wanted to test his people about their values of life. He gave each one of
them a pouch which contained a seed. He asked them to plant it in a pot and return after...show more

Definition Essay: The Value Of Honesty
Honesty "is the refusal to fake reality–i.e., to pretend that facts are other than they are."1 It can be
described as the flip side of rationality: Whereas rationality is the commitment to think, judge, and

Why Is Honesty Important
Why Is Honesty Important? The Impact of Honesty on Me Honesty has played a key role in my
success in life. Throughout my childhood my parents would always remind me about the importance
of being honest. In their opinion nothing was as important as having self–respect and being
trustworthy. The saying "honesty is the best policy" perfectly sums up my belief about how
people should interact with each other. For me, being honest in everything I do can be a very
difficult thing, but I have found that as I follow this basic principle my life has become better for
it. Growing up in my home as a child, I was surrounded by honesty and integrity. I assumed that the

The Role Of Honesty In The Great Gatsby
Renowned inventor and Founding Father Benjamin Franklin once said that "Honesty is the best
policy." Being honest is a very noble quality and everyone should strive to be truthful. However,
this task is much easier said than done. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the
narrator "Nick Carraway" is intended to demonstrate that no matter how hard someone tries,
personal opinions always influence one's decisions and impressions of other people. Nick's
unreliability as a narrator, the way his decisions affect the other characters, and the way Fitzgerald
chose to present Nick as a character are all great points of evidence that support this theory. Nick
thinks of himself as being a very non–judgemental person as he says at...show more content...
Scott Fitzgerald chose to tell the story of The Great Gatsby in a somewhat unconventional way by
using a narrator that is a main character himself. Fitzgerald presents Nick in a specific way to
serve a particular purpose. Fitzgerald uses Nick to demonstrate that people naturally judge others
and that it is impossible for someone to remain completely unbiased when making these
judgments. Usually, the sole purpose of the narrator is to give a medium in which to tell the story,
but Nick tells the story and is involved in it at the same time. He has his own thoughts and feels
different emotions throughout the novel and some of these emotions and feelings creep into his
recollection of what happened. Because of this, the reader feels a stronger connection to him but
at the same time, can be easily persuaded to have the same opinions as him about other characters.
This also may be why Nick changed the most throughout the novel. He started out as a young man
who is looking to make his fortune in the bond business out east but ends up moving back west
because he is fed up with the corruption and greed that comes with the wealthy lifestyle of the east
coast. At the close of the novel Nick says this about the eastern lifestyle, "They were careless
people, Tom and DaisyвЋјthey smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their
money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people
clean up the mess they had made."

I Believe in Honesty
I believe..... in honesty
I strongly believe that honesty is the best policy. Let's not go overboard and think that I never tell
little white lies, because I do, but usually it is to spare someone's feelings. I have learned
throughout the course of many years that telling big lies only leads to more lies. What will happen
when you tell those lies? You will usually end up telling one lie to cover up another lie and
eventually, you will end up telling on yourself.
I remember this story so vividly because it was quite an embarrassing situation for me. It was a
beautiful day outside and my mom wanted to go shopping, I hated shopping but I was tired of being
at home so, I agreed to go with her. I was 12 years old and I remember wearing...show more content...

She grabbed my hand and proceeded to walk me inside, very matter of factly. What? What was
going on? We were walking very fast, and it appeared that she was marching. We walked inside and
she asked for a manager. "OH NO!" I thought to myself. The manager came over and she gave me a
look and it didn't take a genius to know what she wanted me to do. I took the perfume from my
mom's hand and I gave it to the manager, and then I looked down at the floor in shame. I was
reminded by my mother that I was forgetting something, an apology to the manager. I did
apologize and he gave me a look I'll never forget, that dreaded look of utter disappointment, the
same as my mother had given me. I felt so ashamed and my heart continued to beat faster and
faster as he spoke to me, "I could call the police and have you arrested". "Blah, blah, blah..." was
how the rest of the conversation went. I could only concentrate on the "I could call the police and
have you arrested", that's it. I was completely and utterly afraid. I was 12 years old, would they
really arrest me? I had all of these thoughts going through my mind and my mother looked at me and
said, "I'm so disappointed, and you should be ashamed." Oh, I was definitely ashamed AND
mortified! It was never mentioned again after that. But it left a huge impact on me, one I'll never
forget.

Why Is Honesty Is The Best Policy?
Fall 2014 From early childhood, we have been taught the importance of the statement that honesty is
the best policy. Yet we often see stories in the news about politicians and other public figures
deceiving others. In this three–credit independent study, Odell Tamir Armwood will look for
instances in which public figures have betrayed public trust. Moreover, he will attempt to
identify how they attempted to justify what they did and the consequences of their actions. Also,
he will be expected to include thoughts on why honesty is, after all, important. NFL
Commissioner Robert Goodell and Former Ravens RB Ray Rice There are thousands of public
figures who are in the spotlight every day. Some are shining on like stars for doing good things.
Others are fighting judgements from society in general for the things they have done wrong. No
one is a saint. Definitely, no one is perfect. But everyone should try to be as good as they can be.
When and if he or she has done something wrong, how they handle it is what matters.
Accountability is important. Owning up to your mistakes is what makes you a better person.
However, there are people who keep doing the things that hurt them or others around them. They are
the ones who have no care for the consequences of their actions, thinking they will get away with it
one way or another. Like Richard Nixon, Robert Goddell has joined lists of people who have caused
the public to not trust him or the organization he represents– the

Franklin And Honesty
Benjamin Franklin said, "Honesty is the best policy." I do not agree with him, I think that honesty
is not the best. Honesty has its flaws, but to me, lying is (most of the time) the best policy. For
example, when a friend about hair color and the color you want your friends hair to be, would not
suit them. In general, lying is best because, someone could be emotional, the truth could include
useless details, and could save your reputation.
Honesty is good but, it can hurt other people's feelings and emotions. Imagine if your friend wanted
advice on clothing, and you thought that what you wanted them to wear didn't look good on them.
Especially if your friend is sensitive or emotional, being ridiculed because of their clothing would be

Imagine you are throwing a surprise party for your best friend's birthday. You've worked
extremely hard on this party, and don't want it to fail. In order for this to happen you have to lie.
Would you do it? In some of William Shakespeare's plays his characters share their differing
opinions on honesty. I believe that honesty is not always the best policy in every single situation
such as this surprise party scenario. You have a choice to use honesty wisely, when you are truthful
it only hurts you, being kind is really what matters, and lying can also help build people up.
Honesty is a decision you have to make with everything that comes up in your life.
"Will honesty hurt sometimes? You betcha! This is why you've got to exercise your ability to
assess the situation you're in and make the best decision you can based on what's happening around
you." (Huffpost: Is Honesty Really the Best Policy) It is your choice to choose whether or not to tell
your friend the truth about their surprise party. You know it might ruin the party if you do, but you
also know that your friend deserves this grand birthday party. Do you want your friend to receive
instant gratification, or do you want your friend to have an amazing surprise party where she doesn't
know a thing? The decision is yours.
Being honest to hurt others only hurts yourself. "While we may feel temporarily relieved when we
shoot off rounds of honesty, we pay a terrible price for this temporary satisfaction, as we harm our

Benjamin Franklin, of one–hundred–dollar bill fame, once said that "honesty is the best policy"
(Franklin). This seems like a good thing, however if you use the common definition of honesty, of
never telling a lie, then I would disagree with dear Ben, honesty is not the best policy. If I had to
create my own definition of honesty to replace the common definition, I would say that to be
honest, would be to stay true. True to others, true to the world, and true to yourself. To get to how
I came up with this definition we have to go back to the common definition of honesty, which is
not to tell lies. Back when I was a much younger version of myself, in about 2nd grade or so, I
remember telling outrageous lies, lies that are completely impossible for an adult to achieve,
much less a meager 2nd grader. I remember a time when one of the other kids said that they have
three dogs, and then someone else said that they had four dogs, which was more than I had ever
had, so I said that I had five dogs, because having more dogs makes me cool, right? Well someone
else said that they had more animals, and someone else said they had even more animals, and then
someone said that they have some exotic animals, and it ended up with a table of 2nd graders who
owned more animals than were in the entire state of North Carolina and somehow kept them
contained in suburban homes hidden away from the ASPCA. I believe I ended up having an entire
zoo stored somewhere in my closet, just behind my

After that day, I considered honesty one of my biggest priorities. Come today, I have been in a

greater feeling than laying the truth off your back. Because of Drew, I have been able to exert
honesty, which comes with other traits, such as compassion and bravery, in my daily life.
Although I admit I am not perfect, nor remotely close to it, I do believe, from the bottom of my
heart, that honesty is the best policy. Honesty is considered a "Law of Life" because it is a
propitious and positive principle that guides behavior towards a truly successful life. Mary Kay

how it is a necessary principle to follow in order to achieve success. Although dishonest people

There is a certain beauty in living life with honesty. While the benefits of and motivations for
choosing honesty in life are many – including that truthfulness and honesty are integral to one's
sense of moral integrity – living a life of honesty ultimately means having little to regret. Living
with honesty is less about persistently resorting to truth over deception, and is more about living

In many situations it is a good idea to keep quiet or, better still, be diplomatic and tactfully handle
sensitive issues. The line dividing honesty and diplomacy is a thin one. We have to be careful in
deciding when to be honest and when to be at our diplomatic best. We also have to decide whether
we should be absolutely candid, or use the truth as a matter of convenience.
Wars are won by words not weapons. For centuries people have tried to solve their problems by
negotiation. To escape conflicts and wars they have used words to persuade their opponents. That is
where diplomacy begins. Diplomacy is an intellectual activity and decision making derived from
ongoing analysis of current situations. Diplomacy includes the combination of ways and abilities
which any state can use for its worthy existence in the world and for establishing cooperation with
other members of international community.
In modern day and age, one has to practice diplomacy as it is essential to get one's way in a world
that is highly competitive. What you say matters a lot. One has to be careful while conveying issues
as they would have an impact on one's surroundings. Building up of personal relationships depends
upon your choice of words, how you convey them to the concerned

"Honesty is the best policy", we have all heard this saying time and time again. From a very young
age we have been told lying is frowned upon and yet it seems to be an innate skill rooted deep
within us. While basic in nature, telling the truth seems to be an extremely difficult task for the
majority of people. Being honest often goes against our natural instinct of self preservation. Those
who are able to rise above the temptation of lying and resist the easy way out of uncomfortable
situations truly understand what it means to be an honest person. Honesty is the single most
important virtue that a person can have. It builds the foundation for healthy relationships, it is
essential in building trust and having integrity, and tells a lot about someones character. The
challenging aspect of honesty is it isn't black white. Some might argue it is best to lie in order to
protect someones feelings or to keep the peace. There is the age old question, "does this make me
look fat?". It has been ingrained into the minds of men everywhere that the answer is always no. It
has come to be a common belief that it is better to protect someones feelings rather than give it to
them straight. This is where society is sadly mistaken. Being an honest person is more than just
telling the truth when it is beneficial, it is about always sticking to the truth no matter the
repercussions. An honest person does not just tell the truth when asked, but willing presents the

Once when I was 9 years old, I told a lie to my mom. I already knew my mom didn't like lying and

prevent misunderstandings. It is important to remember "not to play to the audience," and say
different things to different groups of people (Bushey, p. 5) as this will lead to a significant loss of
trust and possible arguments will be established. Always be honest, sincere and candid and never
take advantage of another person's trust, while at the same time there must be fairness. There may
be times when dishonesty may be justified, but this should only happen for safety reasons such as

with a golden axe. She asks amicably, "is this what you have lost?" The man answers it is not,
and gives the Goddess the same answer when she returns with a silver axe. He only claims the axe
when she returns what is really his, neither gold nor silver. Impressed by his honesty, the Goddess
allows the man to keep all three axes. The moral of this story is of course, honesty is the best
policy. What determines our decisions of what is right or what is wrong? How do our brains decide
to be honest or dishonest? Answering these questions can help us gain more insight into human
communication. The gold axe in the Honest Woodcutter is what Greene, a psychologist at Harvard
University, describes as the "opportunities of dishonest gain" in his research. There are two
hypotheses in scientific literature that explain human decisions for lying. The Will hypothesis
predicts our brains play an active role in being honest and must resist temptations to lie. The
woodcutter may have had the urge to lie to the goddess, but actively resisted the temptation. On the
other hand, the Grace hypothesis predicts our honesty comes naturally as long as there is no
temptation, making honesty a passive process.

  • 2. Christian View of Statment 'Honesty is the Best Policy' This essay will discuss whether 'honesty is the best policy'. It is written through the eyes of a Christian, and will often refer to the Bible. The essay will bring up biblical matters, and also issues that affect the lives of others and ourselves, that relate to honesty. Being honest has many benefits. In the Bible, it states many times that 'honest people are blessed' for example Psalm 112. The Bible also states that 'when a man is honest he will receive love and kindness' (Psalm 112). The wicked will not like the honest and will hate and try to destroy them. But the word of the Lord has promised, 'The wishes of the wicked will come to nothing' (Psalm 112: 10). The ...show more content... When we trust someone with something, and they go and tell a different version and start spreading rumours about us we lose faith in them and become very wary not to tell them anything important. Once again if they had told the truth, the friendship wouldn't have been damaged. Although we may forgive them, we still take a long time to come to trust them again. In Jeremiah 23, the Lord says that he will punish false prophets. The Lord hates rumour mongers. Surely sometimes it's all right to lie. What if you are doing something in secret, for example, a surprise party and some one asks you what it is? There is no need to lie you can simply tell them that 'you are unable to tell them as it is confidential'. Some of you will be asking, 'What if it's a matter of life and death, that is, to lie and live, or to tell the truth and die. When in this situation, tell the truth and God will provide (Proverbs 3: 5–6). It may not be easy, but stop and think. Is telling a lie and living the rest of your life, then being thrown into the depths of hell for eternity better or worse, than telling the truth, being killed, and spending the rest of eternity with God in heaven? You have to live with yourself. When you lie, you go through life with a small part of your conscience feeling guilty. It is like a disease, as you feel very much at dis–ease. This small guilt grows and grows, causing misery which many people hide. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Honesty Is the Best Policy HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY Honesty, the quality of being honest, is a value which can be defined in multiple ways. In the context of human communication, people are generally said to be honest when they tell the truth to the best of their knowledge and do not hide what they know or think. Apart from being truthful, honesty is also generally thought to involve abstaining from unfair behavior, such as stealing or cheating on a test. It is the quality to tell the truth when it is not easy to tell. I'd like to tell you a little story to illustrate my point. • 4. Definition Essay: The Value Of Honesty Honesty "is the refusal to fake reality–i.e., to pretend that facts are other than they are."1 It can be described as the flip side of rationality: Whereas rationality is the commitment to think, judge, and act with respect to the relevant facts, honesty is the commitment not to do otherwise." Honesty is by definition the quality of being honest Humans lie by nature as a part of our nature is to sin, now if you claim to of never lied then that in itself is a lie. Humans as a whole are constantly striving for what they consider as a better world or good, now that in and of itself is a pretty idea if some of the parts of the whole human community didn't lie or cheat others for personal gain. • 5. Why Is Honesty Important Why Is Honesty Important? The Impact of Honesty on Me Honesty has played a key role in my success in life. Throughout my childhood my parents would always remind me about the importance of being honest. In their opinion nothing was as important as having self–respect and being trustworthy. The saying "honesty is the best policy" perfectly sums up my belief about how people should interact with each other. For me, being honest in everything I do can be a very difficult thing, but I have found that as I follow this basic principle my life has become better for it. Growing up in my home as a child, I was surrounded by honesty and integrity. I assumed that the world was a great place where all people genuinely cared...show more content... • 6. The Role Of Honesty In The Great Gatsby Renowned inventor and Founding Father Benjamin Franklin once said that "Honesty is the best policy." Being honest is a very noble quality and everyone should strive to be truthful. However, this task is much easier said than done. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the narrator "Nick Carraway" is intended to demonstrate that no matter how hard someone tries, personal opinions always influence one's decisions and impressions of other people. Nick's unreliability as a narrator, the way his decisions affect the other characters, and the way Fitzgerald chose to present Nick as a character are all great points of evidence that support this theory. Nick thinks of himself as being a very non–judgemental person as he says at...show more content... Scott Fitzgerald chose to tell the story of The Great Gatsby in a somewhat unconventional way by using a narrator that is a main character himself. Fitzgerald presents Nick in a specific way to serve a particular purpose. Fitzgerald uses Nick to demonstrate that people naturally judge others and that it is impossible for someone to remain completely unbiased when making these judgments. Usually, the sole purpose of the narrator is to give a medium in which to tell the story, but Nick tells the story and is involved in it at the same time. He has his own thoughts and feels different emotions throughout the novel and some of these emotions and feelings creep into his recollection of what happened. Because of this, the reader feels a stronger connection to him but at the same time, can be easily persuaded to have the same opinions as him about other characters. This also may be why Nick changed the most throughout the novel. He started out as a young man who is looking to make his fortune in the bond business out east but ends up moving back west because he is fed up with the corruption and greed that comes with the wealthy lifestyle of the east coast. At the close of the novel Nick says this about the eastern lifestyle, "They were careless people, Tom and DaisyвЋјthey smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made." • 7. I Believe in Honesty I believe..... in honesty I strongly believe that honesty is the best policy. Let's not go overboard and think that I never tell little white lies, because I do, but usually it is to spare someone's feelings. I have learned throughout the course of many years that telling big lies only leads to more lies. What will happen when you tell those lies? You will usually end up telling one lie to cover up another lie and eventually, you will end up telling on yourself. I remember this story so vividly because it was quite an embarrassing situation for me. It was a beautiful day outside and my mom wanted to go shopping, I hated shopping but I was tired of being at home so, I agreed to go with her. I was 12 years old and I remember wearing...show more content... She told me to get out. I wasn't sure what was happening, why did I need to get out of the car? She grabbed my hand and proceeded to walk me inside, very matter of factly. What? What was going on? We were walking very fast, and it appeared that she was marching. We walked inside and she asked for a manager. "OH NO!" I thought to myself. The manager came over and she gave me a look and it didn't take a genius to know what she wanted me to do. I took the perfume from my mom's hand and I gave it to the manager, and then I looked down at the floor in shame. I was reminded by my mother that I was forgetting something, an apology to the manager. I did apologize and he gave me a look I'll never forget, that dreaded look of utter disappointment, the same as my mother had given me. I felt so ashamed and my heart continued to beat faster and faster as he spoke to me, "I could call the police and have you arrested". "Blah, blah, blah..." was how the rest of the conversation went. I could only concentrate on the "I could call the police and have you arrested", that's it. I was completely and utterly afraid. I was 12 years old, would they really arrest me? I had all of these thoughts going through my mind and my mother looked at me and said, "I'm so disappointed, and you should be ashamed." Oh, I was definitely ashamed AND mortified! It was never mentioned again after that. But it left a huge impact on me, one I'll never forget. Fast forward to 2013, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Why Is Honesty Is The Best Policy? Fall 2014 From early childhood, we have been taught the importance of the statement that honesty is the best policy. Yet we often see stories in the news about politicians and other public figures deceiving others. In this three–credit independent study, Odell Tamir Armwood will look for instances in which public figures have betrayed public trust. Moreover, he will attempt to identify how they attempted to justify what they did and the consequences of their actions. Also, he will be expected to include thoughts on why honesty is, after all, important. NFL Commissioner Robert Goodell and Former Ravens RB Ray Rice There are thousands of public figures who are in the spotlight every day. Some are shining on like stars for doing good things. Others are fighting judgements from society in general for the things they have done wrong. No one is a saint. Definitely, no one is perfect. But everyone should try to be as good as they can be. When and if he or she has done something wrong, how they handle it is what matters. Accountability is important. Owning up to your mistakes is what makes you a better person. However, there are people who keep doing the things that hurt them or others around them. They are the ones who have no care for the consequences of their actions, thinking they will get away with it one way or another. Like Richard Nixon, Robert Goddell has joined lists of people who have caused the public to not trust him or the organization he represents– the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Franklin And Honesty Benjamin Franklin said, "Honesty is the best policy." I do not agree with him, I think that honesty is not the best. Honesty has its flaws, but to me, lying is (most of the time) the best policy. For example, when a friend about hair color and the color you want your friends hair to be, would not suit them. In general, lying is best because, someone could be emotional, the truth could include useless details, and could save your reputation. Honesty is good but, it can hurt other people's feelings and emotions. Imagine if your friend wanted advice on clothing, and you thought that what you wanted them to wear didn't look good on them. Especially if your friend is sensitive or emotional, being ridiculed because of their clothing would be too Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Eassy On Honesty Imagine you are throwing a surprise party for your best friend's birthday. You've worked extremely hard on this party, and don't want it to fail. In order for this to happen you have to lie. Would you do it? In some of William Shakespeare's plays his characters share their differing opinions on honesty. I believe that honesty is not always the best policy in every single situation such as this surprise party scenario. You have a choice to use honesty wisely, when you are truthful it only hurts you, being kind is really what matters, and lying can also help build people up. Honesty is a decision you have to make with everything that comes up in your life. "Will honesty hurt sometimes? You betcha! This is why you've got to exercise your ability to assess the situation you're in and make the best decision you can based on what's happening around you." (Huffpost: Is Honesty Really the Best Policy) It is your choice to choose whether or not to tell your friend the truth about their surprise party. You know it might ruin the party if you do, but you also know that your friend deserves this grand birthday party. Do you want your friend to receive instant gratification, or do you want your friend to have an amazing surprise party where she doesn't know a thing? The decision is yours. Being honest to hurt others only hurts yourself. "While we may feel temporarily relieved when we shoot off rounds of honesty, we pay a terrible price for this temporary satisfaction, as we harm our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Honesty Is The Best Policy Benjamin Franklin, of one–hundred–dollar bill fame, once said that "honesty is the best policy" (Franklin). This seems like a good thing, however if you use the common definition of honesty, of never telling a lie, then I would disagree with dear Ben, honesty is not the best policy. If I had to create my own definition of honesty to replace the common definition, I would say that to be honest, would be to stay true. True to others, true to the world, and true to yourself. To get to how I came up with this definition we have to go back to the common definition of honesty, which is not to tell lies. Back when I was a much younger version of myself, in about 2nd grade or so, I remember telling outrageous lies, lies that are completely impossible for an adult to achieve, much less a meager 2nd grader. I remember a time when one of the other kids said that they have three dogs, and then someone else said that they had four dogs, which was more than I had ever had, so I said that I had five dogs, because having more dogs makes me cool, right? Well someone else said that they had more animals, and someone else said they had even more animals, and then someone said that they have some exotic animals, and it ended up with a table of 2nd graders who owned more animals than were in the entire state of North Carolina and somehow kept them contained in suburban homes hidden away from the ASPCA. I believe I ended up having an entire zoo stored somewhere in my closet, just behind my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Honesty, Honesty And Honesty Honesty, honesty, honesty. That's all we, as evolving adolescents in society, hear from our parents, teachers, and coaches. The demonstration of honesty among all people of all ages, simultaneous along with the performance of integrity, compassion, and other powerful traits, is one of the most influential and difficult Laws of Life to endure. Mahatma Gandhi put this into words wonderfully, suggesting that, "It is difficult, but not impossible, to conduct strictly honest business." The Laws of Life, honesty, in particular, are not only difficult to attain, but are also the foundation stones of a functional and upbuilding society. Honesty is a valuable character trait that benefits both the one displaying it as well as his or her...show more content... After that day, I considered honesty one of my biggest priorities. Come today, I have been in a much improved peace of mind, and have connected with my brother much more. Honesty is not always easy, for no one ever wants to get in trouble or let someone down. Nevertheless, there is no greater feeling than laying the truth off your back. Because of Drew, I have been able to exert honesty, which comes with other traits, such as compassion and bravery, in my daily life. Although I admit I am not perfect, nor remotely close to it, I do believe, from the bottom of my heart, that honesty is the best policy. Honesty is considered a "Law of Life" because it is a propitious and positive principle that guides behavior towards a truly successful life. Mary Kay Ash, an extremely successful businesswoman, exemplarily fostered honesty and trust in her life. She wrote, "Honesty is the cornerstone of all success, without which confidence and ability to perform shall cease to exist." Mary shows, clearly, how honesty is a prominent "Law of Life" and how it is a necessary principle to follow in order to achieve success. Although dishonest people may have immediate success in whatever field they are in, his or her mistake will reveal itself in the end game. People who exert honesty and virtue, on the other hand, are respected and end up successful and contented in the end game. These powerful people also have an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Definition Essay On Honesty Best–selling author and podcaster James Altucher once said "Honesty is the fastest way to prevent a mistake turning into a failure" (Altucher). What Altucher was saying is, honesty is a great help in pulling you out of bad situations before they can turn even worse in your life. There are many ways for honesty to work out positively in our lives, it can show a sense of trust within yourself or others you come in contact with. Honesty is also a big part of our lives in our wider culture by being able to express opinions towards various subjects. There are many ways where there is honesty in what goes on in our lives, in television, writing, and everyday conversations. Being honest can be seen as an award for telling the truth and not hiding it. It also promoted a sense of trust between you and the people around you to show that you are a person of your word. When talking to my peers or adults in my family or school, I make it essential that I make sure I show and tell the real version of myself, not someone that only acts a certain way because of who I am talking to. When I have been honest I developed great relationships with the teachers of my high school and now the professors at my university. I am able to express opinions towards them that others may not want to share with the adults in their life. Honesty can leave out any misunderstandings people will have about me and it will help me be able to get out of bad situations, or prevent bad situations from happening. • 14. Essay On Honesty Honesty is the best policy. We have always been taught this and also that to lie is a bad thing to do. There is a certain beauty in living life with honesty. While the benefits of and motivations for choosing honesty in life are many – including that truthfulness and honesty are integral to one's sense of moral integrity – living a life of honesty ultimately means having little to regret. Living with honesty is less about persistently resorting to truth over deception, and is more about living your life in a way that is "honest" to who you are on the inside – your strengths, your gifts, and your passions, as well as your beliefs and morals. Being true to ourselves should undoubtedly help lead us to what most of us strive for in life –some form...show more content... In many situations it is a good idea to keep quiet or, better still, be diplomatic and tactfully handle sensitive issues. The line dividing honesty and diplomacy is a thin one. We have to be careful in deciding when to be honest and when to be at our diplomatic best. We also have to decide whether we should be absolutely candid, or use the truth as a matter of convenience. Wars are won by words not weapons. For centuries people have tried to solve their problems by negotiation. To escape conflicts and wars they have used words to persuade their opponents. That is where diplomacy begins. Diplomacy is an intellectual activity and decision making derived from ongoing analysis of current situations. Diplomacy includes the combination of ways and abilities which any state can use for its worthy existence in the world and for establishing cooperation with other members of international community. In modern day and age, one has to practice diplomacy as it is essential to get one's way in a world that is highly competitive. What you say matters a lot. One has to be careful while conveying issues as they would have an impact on one's surroundings. • 15. Essay about Honesty Honesty Imagine this: You are at a McDonald's drive through. You have ordered only one cheese burger, but when you drive up to the collection window, the young trainee hands you a big bag filled with food and a handful of change. There are two options, do you, A; tell the young trainee that you only ordered a cheese burger, (which cost you only $1.90) and give back to him the big bag of food and handful of change? Or do you, B; say thank you to the young trainee and drive off happily with the huge bag of food and all the change, feeling lucky that the trainee made a mistake with your order. Of course, the first action suggested above, (A) is the honest and truthful way to resolve the problem. However, unfortunately, most of...show more content... This in turn will agitate the people in the long line behind you even more. In this particular scenario, the latter solution (B) is the morally correct action, even though it may agitate the people in the line, you are doing the right thing and being honest. Once again, most adolescents would act out the morally incorrect solution and see it as just a little bonus cash on behalf of the colour–blind checkout girl (even though most adolescents don't do any shopping). Imagine if you were that particular checkout girl. Because of the fact that you are colour–blind, you can barely tell the difference between the different banknotes apart from their size and the number in the top right hand corner. Your boss is looking over your shoulder to see how you are doing because he is waiting for the last customers to leave so that he can close the doors and go home for the night. He spots your mistake but the sinful adolescent has already left. After the gates have been closed, the store manager summons you to his office to have one of his 'little chats'. You immediate think of the worst–case scenario, could you have been fired? When you reach his office, he vividly tells you about the mistake, which you had unknowingly made just minutes earlier. He then continues to tell you that the sum of money will be taken out of your fortnightly pay cheque. 'Phew!' You think to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Eassy On Honesty "Honesty is the best policy", we have all heard this saying time and time again. From a very young age we have been told lying is frowned upon and yet it seems to be an innate skill rooted deep within us. While basic in nature, telling the truth seems to be an extremely difficult task for the majority of people. Being honest often goes against our natural instinct of self preservation. Those who are able to rise above the temptation of lying and resist the easy way out of uncomfortable situations truly understand what it means to be an honest person. Honesty is the single most important virtue that a person can have. It builds the foundation for healthy relationships, it is essential in building trust and having integrity, and tells a lot about someones character. The challenging aspect of honesty is it isn't black white. Some might argue it is best to lie in order to protect someones feelings or to keep the peace. There is the age old question, "does this make me look fat?". It has been ingrained into the minds of men everywhere that the answer is always no. It has come to be a common belief that it is better to protect someones feelings rather than give it to them straight. This is where society is sadly mistaken. Being an honest person is more than just telling the truth when it is beneficial, it is about always sticking to the truth no matter the repercussions. An honest person does not just tell the truth when asked, but willing presents the information without being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. The Importance Of Honesty Honesty Would you call yourself honest if you never have the chance to be dishonest? Honesty is the foundation upon which a person builds any relationship with their loved ones such as family or friends. Being honest to loved ones, will make them feel that they are trustworthy and close enough for to reveal their feelings. Honesty plays an important role in raising children to be good citizens. When I was six years old, one spring afternoon I was waiting for the bell to ring to go home from school. The Principal, Mrs. Garcia came to my classroom to give us a last minute announcement. I found it, not my mother. Then she said, "Tomorrow we will go to school and give it back to whoever this money belongs to." Tomorrow came and there we were, in the Principal's office. I remember the reaction of the Principal. She was crying like a river, kissing my mother, and thanking her over and over for her honesty and the great example she was to me. At that the moment I understood why she wanted to give the money back. It belonged to the Principal who put the folder on my desk, while she was giving the last minute announcement the day before. I had been in a hurry and I shoved the folder in my back pack by accident. My mother never told me that what we did was called honesty. We never talked about the incident. I learned by her example what the right choice was, and it changed my life forever. Shakespeare once said, "Honesty is the best policy. If I lose my honor, I lose myself." From his quote, it is clear that Shakespeare thinks honor is more important than anything else in life. Honesty is a virtue that is uniquely valued by human beings as well by our Heavenly Father. Being honest often requires courage and sacrifice, especially when others try to persuade us to justify dishonest behavior. Being honest ha Pros and Cons and some of them are the following: Pros: People respect you and trust you. They know you are a person with integrity. • 18. Eassy On Honesty "Honesty is the best policy." Many people tend to lie thinking that it will keep you out of trouble, when in reality it just gets you in more trouble when people find out you're lying. I learned the consequences of telling lies the hard way. Lying just creates bigger problems and consequences. Once when I was 9 years old, I told a lie to my mom. I already knew my mom didn't like lying and had recently gotten my sister, Hannah, in trouble for lying. I had never lied to my mom before so when I did it was really nerve wracking. I had to make up the lie on the spot so it wasn't the best, but I knew my mom would believe me if I told her it was Hannah. If I told her that I heard someone in the kitchen I knew it would work. When you walk into my house the first thing you see is the living and dining room, and stairs. Then you walk in the dining room is a hall with three rooms and mines the one on the end. Since I'm really close to kitchen and can basically hear anything going on in the house I knew I could make my lie believable. That night I didn't get dessert because I didn't really want any, even though we had just bought five pints of ice cream, one for me and each one of my sisters. We were all only allowed to eat half of thepint. I had fallen asleep without any ice cream, but I woke up and wanted some. So, I went to the freezer in the kitchen to grab my ice cream and a spoon and went back to my room. I turned on the tv and started watching my favorite show on Netflix. Equally important, individuals need to stand up for what they believe in as this will take courage and honesty. On the other hand, the aunt could have been upset because she was being questioned, but if she has good intentions for her mother then there should be no problem to releasing that information rather than go through a civil process in court. In addition, being sincere with words and actions will eliminate untrue or misleading information. Leaders must work hard and be accurate to prevent misunderstandings. It is important to remember "not to play to the audience," and say different things to different groups of people (Bushey, p. 5) as this will lead to a significant loss of trust and possible arguments will be established. Always be honest, sincere and candid and never take advantage of another person's trust, while at the same time there must be fairness. There may be times when dishonesty may be justified, but this should only happen for safety reasons such as lying to criminals or terrorists in order to save lives. When being dishonest it should only be for those reasons just stated and not for winning a game or hitting a sales target to avoid confrontation. (Josephson, 2002, p. • 20. Honesty Is The Best Policy Essay Honesty is the Best Policy Yuki Toda The Honest Woodcutter, is one of Aesop's Fables. It tells a story where a woodcutter drops his axe into a river by accident. Because this is his only means of livelihood, he sits and weeps. A Goddess takes pity on this man, and dives into the river returning with a golden axe. She asks amicably, "is this what you have lost?" The man answers it is not, and gives the Goddess the same answer when she returns with a silver axe. He only claims the axe when she returns what is really his, neither gold nor silver. Impressed by his honesty, the Goddess allows the man to keep all three axes. The moral of this story is of course, honesty is the best policy. What determines our decisions of what is right or what is wrong? How do our brains decide to be honest or dishonest? Answering these questions can help us gain more insight into human communication. The gold axe in the Honest Woodcutter is what Greene, a psychologist at Harvard University, describes as the "opportunities of dishonest gain" in his research. There are two hypotheses in scientific literature that explain human decisions for lying. The Will hypothesis predicts our brains play an active role in being honest and must resist temptations to lie. The woodcutter may have had the urge to lie to the goddess, but actively resisted the temptation. On the other hand, the Grace hypothesis predicts our honesty comes naturally as long as there is no temptation, making honesty a passive process. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
