Chris Seabo studied at the Art Institute of Philadelphia and Rutgers School of Business. She is a senior
graphic designer at the Wyanoke Group and has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of
the Arts for six years.
Photoshop Course description:
Explore Photoshop through hands-on web design exercises. The course starts with an introduction to
the Photoshop interface, tools and optimizing files for the web. We will discover how to use layers,
effects, text, and vector images to create effective unique graphics for print and web purposes.

A Tour of the Photoshop Environment
• Setting up and saving a custom workspace

• Learn difference between pixel and vector tools
and how to use both.
Assignment In Class Assignment:
Create a 5”x7” psd document with a text layer with your
name above a raster background. Save your file in our
shared workspace with your first initial and last name.

Critiques - Led by Chris with student participation expected.
Attendance + Participation
All students are expected to attend classes regularly and promptly, and for the duration of the
scheduled instructional time. Individual instructors will decide the optimum time for taking
attendance and may penalize for habitual lateness of absence. Repeated absences may result in
a grade of "F" for the course.
Students who withdraw from a course must do so in writing. Nonattendance does not constitute
an official withdrawal.

ACT 48 Activity Hours
To have ACT 48 Activity Hours for this course reported to the Pennsylvania Department of

Grading:
Students will be evaluated on their personal progression, competency with the material and
class participation. Completion of class assignments and homework are necessary for a passing
grade. Students are encouraged to ask questions during the demonstrations and to bring up
any concerns or trouble they are having with the material during critiques.

CE 2423C 01 | Adobe Photoshop - Spring 2016 Instructor Information Name: Chris Seabo Email: cseabo@uarts.edu Chris Seabo studied at the Art Institute of Philadelphia and Rutgers School of Business. She is a senior graphic designer at the Wyanoke Group and has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of the Arts for six years. Photoshop Course description: Explore Photoshop through hands-on web design exercises. The course starts with an introduction to the Photoshop interface, tools and optimizing files for the web. We will discover how to use layers, effects, text, and vector images to create effective unique graphics for print and web purposes. Session 1 Topic Coursework Due 2-04 Introduction Class Introductions. Review course syllabus. Student survey completed in class. Presentation/ In-Class work Image Essentials • Resolution, file types and color space overview • Optimizing images for print and web graphics A Tour of the Photoshop Environment • Setting up and saving a custom workspace • Opening, saving and creating new documents • Application Preferences and tool options Introduction to and practice with tools • Learn difference between pixel and vector tools and how to use both. Assignment In Class Assignment: Create a 5”x7” psd document with a text layer with your name above a raster background. Save your file in our shared workspace with your first initial and last name. 2-11

Bring two photos to retouch next week 2-25 SESSION 4 TOPIC COURSEWORK DUE 2/25 Review Interactive homework presentation by students. Presentation/ In-Class work Retouching Photographs Work with healing brush and clone tool to remove imperfections from photograph. Animated GIFs Instructor led demonstration Students will create an animated gif to demonstrate their before and after retouching work in photoshop. Homework Homework: Create a photoshop file with layer groups containing the before and after retouched images. Save as an animated gif and bring to class next week with your pdf to present to class. Choose a topic for a print ad that will direct people to a website landing page. Stock content will be provided if you do not have a personal purpose for a social media post. 3-3

In-Class work Using Layer Masks Mocking Up Print ad • Create the primary visual for the ad Photoshop by creating large color areas that blend with your photo so type can be reversed from the background. Use blending techniques so that photo and background blend seamlessly. Mid course survey Complete online mid course survey. 3-3 Homework In Class Assignment and Homework: Finalize 7”x10” CMYK print ad to direct people to landing page developed later in course. 3-10 Session 6 Topic Coursework Due 3/10 Review Ad presentation by students with critique. Presentation Adjustment layers and Channels Assignment 3-17 Session 7 Topic Coursework Due 3/17 Review Review of concepts covered in class thus far and address any unanswered questions. Presentation/ In-Class work Artboards- How to use in responsive design. Email design Chris will create an email design using Photoshop. Students will create an email comp to drive visitors to the web landing page in Session 8. Answer questions. Presentation In-Class work Create and Use Actions Record processes you tend to repeat as an action that can be applied to a group of photos. Homework Refine your best work from the course to submit next week. 4-14 Session Topic Coursework Due Session 10 4/14 Presentation Review of last class followed by short critique. Students will complete online course evaluation In-Class work Course project presentations Students will present their final projects to the class and demonstrate psd layer organization, webpage features and calls to action. Save psds with first initial last name_project name on our shared workspace. COURSE MATERIALS 1 - Flash Drive or Cloud storage for saving classwork and homework assignments.
