The document discusses a studio project for Fundación Metrópoli and Fundación Astroc. The goals of the project are to identify the urban form in Madrid, conceptualize the European Diagonal region, explore Madrid's context within this region, and examine the Diagonal as a connection between Europe and Northern Africa. Key aspects of the emerging European Diagonal macro-region stretching from Portugal to Italy are presented, including population, GDP, airports and ports of major cities within it like Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Marseille, and Milan. Madrid's position within this region is also examined.

THE EMERGENT “EUROPEAN DIAGONAL”
The geographic area of the GMR encompass an area with a 100 km radius from the Plaza del Sol in Madrid, including the City of Madrid itself, as well as other nearby cities such as Toledo, Segovia, Avila, Guadalajara and Aranjuez.
“European Diagonal” is an emergent “Global Gateway Region” that can complement the “European Pentagon” (London-Paris-Hamburg-Munich-Milan)
The study will consider how the “European Diagonal” is being configured and integrated through infrastructure and transport systems, economic, mobility and environment strategies etc, to become a complementary space to the “European Pentagon.”
