What is Brotherly Kindness
 Brotherly kindness translates in the Greek
philadelphia, a fervent practical caring for others. (Brotherly
Love and Brotherly kindness are the same in the Bible as they come from the same Greek word.)
1 “philadelphia”(G5360), fraternal affection: - brotherly love (kindness),
love of the brethren.

 The Purpose Brotherly Love
 Notice …Rom 12:9-10
 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectionate one to another with brotherly love; in honour
preferring one another;
 So what is the purpose of seeking one another’s well-being above your own? It is to build them up.
To edify them. To set aside your own needs, so their needs are met. Furthermore, it is not dependent
on “how ya doin’” at the moment. Love is putting another’s well-being above your own, regardless
of how high or low you seem to be at the time.
 What is the purpose of seeking one another’s well-being above your own? To Build Them Up
 What do you do when you don’t desire their well-being? ..If you don’t build up you will tear down.
 Or you let them fall, when you could have held them up

 Brotherly Love and “Love – Agape”
 Brotherly Kindness and Love are very similar. Brotherly Kindness can also be an
action or extension of Love.
 Neither brotherly kindness nor love depends upon being loved back. Their purpose is to build up
others, not themselves. But love, as opposed to brotherly kindness, anticipates rejection.
 Brotherly kindness operates amongst a body that is building itself up in love.
 Brotherly kindness operates within this realm of born-again communion. Brotherly kindness operates
amongst those who know that there is “one body and one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God
and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.”
 Brotherly kindness is seeking the well-being of your brothers and sisters in Christ, above your
own well-being. (Gal 6:10)

Read Acts 14:14-18 and write the different ways that we witness the
Lord's kindness. (vs 17)
He provides food and satisfies our hearts with gladness.
What is the purpose of God's kindness or goodness in Romans 2:4? It leads us to repentance.
Read Romans 11:22. Consider the kindness and stern nature of God.

Brotherly Kindness
What does Hebrews 13:1 tell us. To continue to love the brethren.
Brotherly kindness is a mutual love that children of the same father share. IN the New Testament, it
always means love of the fellow believer, because we all have the same Heavenly Father.
As our love for the brethren develops and matures, we will come even closer to God in being like Him.
As we become more like Him, we will come to love unconditionally as He does.
Where is your love at right now?
Is your love a conditional love or an unconditional love?
Typically it is conditional but I strive to have an unconditional love.
