How can we do this? Virtual Machines are enormous it would take days or even weeks to move them through a typical inter-office link. So we don’t actually move the VMs themselves. We maintain shadow copies in multiple offices and schedule regular updates. Now, to “move” a virtual machine, all we need do is to transfer any outstanding changes since the last checkpoint and activate it in a new site. Your biggest savings is in branch office administration: now one central administrator can manage several sites.
