This presentation is a collection of my favorite quotes, stories (nice to know), pictures and screenshots from my book 'Timespiration'. I hope it will help you to get a different look at time because time is a lot more than clocktime.
3. “Life is what happens to you
when you’re busy making other
plans.”
John Lennon
4. The human clock is a site which shows a
photograph of the current time - with
the photo changing every minute of
the day (1.440 pictures a day). Craig
Giffen started this site in 2001 and
now people from all over the world
send pictures with the time on to this
site & hope to get on the site.
9. The Long Now Foundation was
established in 01996 (*) and has the
mission to stimulate people to think in a
longer terms. They hope to counterpoint
to today's mindset 'faster/cheaper' to a
more 'slower/better' thinking. The Long
Now Foundation organizes seminars,
conferences, ... to promote this vision.
A very cool projects is a clock on a
mountain top in eastern Nevada. The
clock will tick once a year, bongs once a
century and the cuckoo comes out every
millennium.
(*1) the extra digit in the date is already added to solve the deca-
millennium bug in 8000 years)
10. "To achieve great things, two
things are needed:
a plan, and not quite enough
time."
Leonard Bernstein
11.
12. Long imprisonment - In Spain, a
postman was accused of a very
long imprisonment. Apparently,
the law is in Spain that postmen
can get an imprisonment of 9
years for not delivering a piece of
mail. Because this guy hadn't
delivered more than 40.000 postal
items, the prosecutor claimed
384.912 years of imprisonment.
13.
14. "The only reason for time is so
that everything doesn't happen
at once."
Albert Einstein

17. Lifeline instead of deadline - Don’t you
get already stress from the word
itself - deadline - even without
thinking of the real pressure that
comes to mind when you think
about deadlines. It gives the
impression that the activity or
project that you're doing will be
dead if you don't finish it on time.
Why don't we call it a lifeline?
+ It sounds better and more positive
+ The activity or project can come
alive if you finish it within the
clocktime
+ If you don't reach the lifeline, give
the activity or activity another life
18. "There are two kinds of people,
those who finish what they start
and so on."
Robert Byrne

20. Proxima centauri - We already know that our universe is quite big ... euh
very big. The closest star to the earth (except for our sun) is called proxima
centauri and is at a distance of 4 light years. Quite far if you know that a
light year is traveling a year with the speed of light (300.000 km/second).
So that means that the distance is around 37.000.000.000.000 km.
Our Sun is only traveling 8 light minutes from earth.
21. "I've been on a calendar, but I
have never been on time."
Marilyn Monroe
22.
23. "It's not enough to be busy, so are
the ants. The question is, what
are we busy about?"
Henry David Thoreau
24. Whoops, some clockdays are missing - In
1582 had pope Gregorius XIII - a well-
known calendar reformer - a problem. He
discovered that the Julian calendar
(named after Julius Caesar) was not very
accurate and he wanted to readjust the
calendar. But he had a shortage of a few
days so he solved this problem by
abolishing the days between Thursday 4
October 1582 and Friday 15 October 1582.
The days in between don't exist and form a
black hole in our history. From then on, he
cancelled the leap years at the end of a
century. The calendar is from that moment
also called the gregorian calendar.

26. "The bad news is time flies. The
good news is you're the pilot."
Michael Altshule

28. Bombing thwarted by daylight saving time - In September 1999, the West
Bank was on Daylight Saving Time while Israel had just switched back to
standard time. West Bank terrorists prepared time bombs and smuggled
them to their Israeli counterparts, who misunderstood the time on the bombs.
As the bombs were being planted, they exploded - one hour too early – killing
three terrorists instead of the intended victims - two busloads of people.
31. "Time is more valuable than
money. You can get more money,
but you cannot get more time."
Jim Rohn
32. Too late - In Denmark, a librarian was
very happy when a woman returned a
book that was already lend out 61
years. The woman had discovered the
book at the attic of her deceased
parents and there was still an address
of the library on it.
The normal penalty would be 5.310 euro
for returning a book that late but the
librarian was very happy that they got
the old book back and the woman
didn't had to pay the penalty ;-)
The message from the librarian was 'It
is never too late to return a book'.

34. "The best time to plant a tree is
twenty years ago,
the second best time is today."

35. This is a book about Time.
It's not a book about time-management.
It's not a book about the clock.
It's a book about Time and the different perspectives on this topic.
