The document describes simulations of the surface heat treatment of a forged crankshaft using the Virfac virtual manufacturing software. The simulations model the induction heating and quenching process, accounting for thermal, mechanical, and metallurgical phenomena. The results show the temperature distribution over time, the phases present at different stages, and the residual stresses and distortions induced by the quenching process. While the complete crankshaft model approximates temperature changes, the reduced model including metallurgical transformations better captures the compressive residual stresses in the hardened surface layer.
