2. Inspiring music videos
This is an amateur example music video from a previous student which is inspiring me for ideas for my music video. It
is a transformation of a character styled video as you can see by both the girl and boy gradually getting ready doing
different things and by the end they are both dressed ready to dance. This video also features some extreme close
ups of perfume being sprayed, makeup being put on, tying up shoe laces which all form to become really effective
shots and therefor doesn’t lose the audiences attention at all. There is also a dance routine mixed into this video
towards the end as both characters come together and start dancing, it has been choreographed as they both are
doing the exact same dance. It is well performed and adds a different aspect into the whole video which makes it fun
to watch. as the whole video is to a slow paced song, it meant that she would have had to slow the footage down to
slo-mo to make the actions fit in with the song and not go too fast. She has created her music video to a very good
standard and I am hoping to gather some inspiration from her as my idea is to make a transformation of a character
video as I find it very effective and not too complex.

3. Inspiring music videos
This is a professional music video I have decided I want to use to inspire me for making my own music video. It is a
very bubbly pop song which is portrayed through the music video being very lively and colourful with lots going on all
the time to not make the viewers lose interest. The different scenes, she is wearing different outfits but normally a
‘pastel’ colours of pink, yellow, blue, green and purple. With the backing dancers all different colour outfits on. The
outline of this video is that they are all dolls living inside a dolls house, we know this because of the different scenes
we see a table with a tea party on, the walls are almost childlike and all bright like a child's room would be etc. Even
though the video is meant to be childish and them being dolls, there is a grown up aspect to it as the lyrics in the song
doesn’t match the childish theme. I find this music video inspiring to what I want mine to be like with all the bright
colours. However, the only thing I will intertwine in my own music video from this one would be the different colours
used as I find it very very effective and will look good if I make it my own. This is a performance based performance as
she performs her singing and dancing to the audience. She gives direct address and eye contact to the audience
making us feel connected and involved with her and the song which makes it really effective and interesting. It also
doesn’t make the audience feel bored of the video as there is a huge amount of bright colours and there is always
something big going on in every scene and never nothing or just standing still singing.

4. Inspiring music videos
This is a second example of what is my idea of an inspirational music video. I feel the artist Megan Trainor’s video’s all
have a similar feel to them with all the bright colours and the bubbly effect it has. Not only is she a good performer
with a lot of energy, the different bursts of colour also give that extra boost of effectiveness. I love the way each scene
is similar, however different by the different actions Megan does. This music video is about Megan dumping her
boyfriend but with style. The music video is a performance video as we can tell through how Megan is performing her
song throughout the music video with her dancing with various actions which are linked to the lyrics. In several scenes
we are also shown her singing right into the microphone, again with the performance aspect. During the course of the
video, we are faced with dozens of objects that are linked with lips of some sort. For example, her earrings are lips,
there is a lip sofa in the background which are obviously a symbol that is used for the whole song to represent the
title. Megan shows a lot of energy in this performance which we can tell that all the energy is given out through her
and the way she performs as it is a pop song. There is mainly mid shots in this video to show all the different
backgrounds and colours there are, also to show the performing. Occasionally there are a few close ups and extreme
close ups of Megan singing into a microphone and her lips.

5. Mood Board
I have decided to create a mood board to
help me gather all of my ideas into one
whole picture. The pictures I have decided
to use are what I will want to do in my
video. All the different colours show the
different outfits I want her to wear. There
will be a photoshoot taking place and
keep flipping to her wearing different
outfits and posing for the camera. I feel
this mood board is a great representation
of what my idea is and I feel it will be
great use into me organising what I want
it to be like in my real music video.
6. My intentions of my music video
My intention of my music video is to be and look professional. I will accomplish this through looking at different
professional music video’s and how I will use their videos for inspiration. The whole idea of my music video would be a
model getting ready for a photo-shoot by putting makeup on/ hair etc.. she will have a lot of costume changes and
different positions to stand in. Then the photo-shoot will happen but as if she is having a lot of fun, not a serious photo-
shoot. She will be dancing around to the song and having a fun time which we will clearly see in the video. I want my
music video to be fun and not to lose the attention of the audience watching it. I will accomplish this by making sure that
all the time there is something going on to watch and not something boring like people see in every music video. I also
don’t want the music video to be too long, because normally when a song exceeds 3 minutes, it starts to get a bit boring
listening to the same thing for 3 minutes. However with the music video it can seem shorter and times go quicker as there
is something to watch and focus on. I don’t want my song to be too long as I don’t want to risk it being ‘boring’ in some
kind of way to the audience at all. I also intend my organisation to be perfect. I don’t want to risk anything going wrong
which is why I want to organise and plan everything I intend to do for my music video. if something goes wrong, that will
just waste precious time which is why I need to make sure there is no mistakes in the planning of my music video and be
very specific and precise to what I am going to do.
7. Cannon 5500D camera: I am going
to film using this camera as I am familiar
on how to use this camera and how to
alter the IOS etc.. I will also use aperture
lenses to create the best shots I can.
Tripod: the tripod will help me a lot in filming
my music video. this is to help the camera stop
being jerky and to stay calm and still which is
what I need it to be and with the tripod, this is
possible.
Studio Lights: the studio lights are one of
the main equipment pieces I need in order to
film my music video. these lights will help me
create the best lighting I can and by adding
different filters to the lights I can get different
shades depending on the effect I want.
Green screen and backdrops: i am planning
to use the green screen for a different colour
backgrounds. But I am mainly planning to use the
white and black backdrops to create the different
backgrounds for my different scenes to be on.
Balloons: i plan on using
balloons in my filming in one of my
scenes for an aspect of fun. The
balloons will be everywhere all over
the floor with the actors within
them. Camera will be above them.
Bubble Machine: I am using
a bubble machine in quite a lot
of my scenes as I feel in a black
room and the lights shining on it,
it will look really effective and
something a bit different.

8. scene ideas
These are a few ideas that
I want to happen in my
music video. I want my
photo-shoot idea to be fun
and very colourful and the
pictures above are some
inspiration of what scenes
I want to include in my
video. I feel these different
scenes I will be able to
create myself and also feel
will look very good in my
final video. it isn’t boring
which is my main aim (to
keep it fun)
9. outfit ideas
I have chosen this outfit as it is a bit
weird but also fun. They will be wearing
wigs to make the photo-shoot more
unique and fun. Both of the models will
be wearing different coloured wigs and
dresses to show a contrast between the
two. this will link well with the scene
with all the balloons.
This is also another outfit that
shows contrast between two
people as black and white are
opposite. They will both be
wearing sunglasses to add that
‘famous’ look to them both.
I have gone for this look as I
wanted a more casual look added
to the more unique and fun side of
the photo-shoot. Although I
wanted my photo-shoot to be fun,
I also intend to show a more
serious side to the girls, this would
be wearing every day clothes and
even a handbag.
This final look will be the weirdest
but coolest look. Both the girls will
be wearing onesies. I feel this will
be a good idea for the scene with
bubbles as its almost like a fantasy
or a fairytale.
11. Song research summary
The song and the artist featured in the
Daily Mail for new video. even though
the original music video is the way it is, it
is for a reason which the newspaper is
getting across to people the reasons for
that. It will make people understand why
she made her song like this and also the
video. it also explains what the song is
about.
It was also
on a
website
called
Time.
Explaining
that this
song that
she made
was
because
she was
going
through a
hard time.
The song reached to number one so was being played on
capital a lot. This made more people aware of her song and
as it has a catchy beat to it, will attract people to the song
and even create new fans for Rita. This was a good
advertising event for Rita’s song due to how big Capital fm is.
The song was released on 18 May 2015 and peaked at number three in the UK
which was a huge success. She originally wrote song lyrics ‘I could have you for
breakfast and codeine for lunch’ She later decided to scrap the lyrics because she
wanted the song's value to resonate more than the controversies surrounding her
as a person. The lyrics were then changed too ‘I could have beer for breakfast my
sanity for lunch’ she described the songs lyrics as: 'Poison's about having
something to complain about and in my world that thing I'm complaining about is
love and being 24. You forget what real life is sometimes and it's not about
pretending to have an upper hand on someone, it's about knowing the truth and
keeping it moving’
Rita Ora has 1,085,660
subscribers on her youtube
page.
The song got 37,642,956
views on youtube in just 6
months of it being put on
youtube.
12. Editing Techniques and Conventions
Throughout my music video, I want to use a couple of editing techniques within my music video.
The first editing technique that I am wanting to use would be Performance. I feel by having an aspect of performance in my
music video will connect the audience with the person singing the song. As my song has a deep meaning to it and is an
emotional subject to sing about, by adding a performance section into it, will show the emotion of the lyrics to the audience
by her facial expression of her singing. A good example music video of performance is ‘Alex Winston- velvet Elvis’ as she has a
lot of energy in her music video and performs her song very well.
Another editing technique I will add to my music video is going to be Transformation of a character. I feel as my character in
my music video is getting ready and done up for a photo shoot, it will be important for me to show her transformation from
start to finish. I will do this by gradually doing the normal steps of makeup and hair. I will do it in a way that wont be boring
through doing a variety of different shots within this section of my video. a good example of this would be ‘Annie Lennox-
Why’ as she is gradually getting ready but it isn’t boring to watch. intertwined in this video is also performance aspect to it as
she sings a line that really stands out to the audience.
my final editing technique I am planning to use in my music video and I will use a lot of it, is going to be Slow Motion. I have
seen a number of music videos that have slow motion in it and every time I have found it to be very successful and really cool
to watch. I find having slow motion in a music video can emphasise the smallest movement which looks really cool in the long
run. Most music videos have slow motion in it as it adds meaning to something so small for example, something falling off and
smashing, or a dress being spun which you can see through the small movement, but it is a big thing when you put it in slow
motion it will look a lot cooler than it would in its normal speed. A good example of a slow motion video would be
‘Radiohead- Street Spirit’ and ‘Ciara- I Bet’
15. Mind map
My Music Video
Overall idea:
My idea is about successful artists (Alex Fumston & Rebecca Maleney) who is
getting ready for a photo-shoot for a magazine. She will start by getting ready by
doing her makeup and hair for her big photo-shoot which is where I will interpret
some slow motion and extreme close ups, when the beat drops from slow to fast, a
bit of her makeup will smash to take us into the more up beat part of the song. She
will be in different outfits dancing around the set to make it look like she's having
fun which matches the up beat tempo of the song, different actions depending on
the part of the song, So she will be wearing 5 different colour outfits which are:
black, white / silver, blue, pink and red, with the background using green screen,
will consist of different colours, with the colours being bright and bubbly. During the
photo shoot will be a lot of fun things going on, for example there will be a lot of
balloons floating around the floor, also a silly string scene that will take place.
Location:
There will be 2 different locations that I will be filming my music video. The first
one will be in the drama studio. I have chosen to do a bit of my filming in the
drama studio because it is all black in there which will be perfect for what I am
doing. There are also spotlights in that room which I can focus one onto the
character, which will look effective as it will be all black everywhere else except
the character. My second choice of location will be in a media room. The room
where the green screen is placed. I will be using the green screen but also all the
equipment that comes with it, with all the wiring and lighting and the diffusion
umbrellas. This will make it look like a professional photo-shoot which is what I
want to portray in my video. I feel both of these locations is exactly what I need to
make my video the best It could be with all the facilities I need included.
Song choice:
I have chosen to use the song ‘Poison’ by Rita Ora. I
feel this is an appropriate song choice for my idea of a
music video. At the beginning it starts off very slow
and quiet which is perfect for the section of Alex
Fumston transforming into her character for the
photo-shoot. As soon as the up beat part comes in,
the actual photo-shoot section will start and there will
be a lot more fun and movement going on.
Props needed:

red)
• lipsticks (black, nude, blue, pink &
red)
• Foundation
• Mascara
• Blusher
• Makeup brush
• Balloons &party poppers
• Feather bower

16. Song Lyrics analysis:
I could have beer for breakfast
My sanity for lunch
Trying to get over how bad I want you so much
Innocence for dinner
Pour something in my cup
Anything and everything just to fill me up
But nothing ever gets me high like this
I pick my poison and it's you
Nothing can kill me like you do
You're going straight to my head
And I'm heading straight for the edge
I pick my poison and it's you
I pick my poison and it's you
I can feel you whisper and laying on the floor
I try to stop but I keep on coming back for more
I’m a light-weight and I know it
Cause after the first time, I was falling, falling down
Nothing ever gets me high like this
Metaphor to portray her sadness
This first paragraph is telling a story about
how sad she is about wanting someone
who she cant have. She portrays this
through the lyrics of her song. ‘beer for
breakfast’ – meaning she feels better when
she is drunk because she is hurting so
much.
Meaning the person she likes is killing her,
not literally but she is comparing him to
poison. As poison kills
Metaphor that this certain person is
making her so sad that she is even
considering killing herself
17. Song Lyrics
I pick my poison and it's you
Nothing can kill me like you do
You're going straight to my head
And I'm heading straight for the edge
I pick my poison and it's you
I pick my poison and it's you
Bittersweet ecstasy
That you got me in
Falling deep
I can't sleep tonight
And you made me feel like I'm out of my mind
But it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
Bittersweet ecstasy
That you got me in
Falling deep
I can't sleep tonight
And you made me feel like I'm out of my mind
Oh but it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
Nothing ever gets me high like this
I pick my poison and it's you
Nothing can kill me like you do
You're going straight to my head
And I'm heading straight for the edge
I pick my poison and it's you
I pick my poison and it's you
Comparing him to a very bad drug, as if he has that
bad effect on her and how she feels
Even though this certain person is
practically killing her, she still doesn’t mind
because of how much she likes him.
‘going straight to my head’ saying
that when she is with him / thinks
about him, she gets this feeling
that is like getting drunk or drugs
‘I pick my poison and its you’ even though this
person has a negative, awful effect to her, she still
picks him and wants him even if it does make her
feel horrible
This whole song is like a sick love song. This girl is so in love with
someone and for some reason they cant be together, she is hurting so
bad and the only way she can reflect this is by drugs and drinking.
However even though she does compare her feelings towards him as
getting drunk and getting high and even killing herself, she still wants
him as it states in the lyrics of ‘I pick my poison and its you’ which
portrays that even if she is going to kill herself, she wants it to be
because of the person she loves. Its lyrical content details pain
experienced from a dysfunctional relationship with a backstabbing,
toxic love interest. The lyrics also recall all the ways in which Ora had
fallen in love with him, and while she tries to forget him, she clarifies in
the chorus that she cannot let him go and a period in her life when it
was poisonous.
