1. 3G Football Pitch Review
My first news story was about the Eccles centres new 3G football pitch. For this radio story I
interviewed Neil Hayden, I thought I would interview his as his answers about the pitch would be
relevant since he coordinates the sports at Eccles College. I felt that the interview went well with
Neil as the conversation flowed well with their being little if any dead air. However I believe during
the recording I should have had the microphone closer as some of the speaking is slightly muffled at
times. I asked questions that would get informative answers and what I thought the students would
like to know such as “When will the centre be ready for use?”. The purpose of my interview was
defiantly informative as students in theory could learn everything they need to know about the 3G
pitch from my interview. I tried to ask my questions in a less informative way, as I felt my audience
would lose interest in a formal news story. I didn’t have to edit much of my interview on REAPER as
it all flowed well and was relevant to my story. Overall I would say this was a very successful news
story as my finished recording complete to a good standard in my opinion. It was clearly spoken,
flowed well and found out everything crucial about the new pitch.
Xbox One VS PS4 Review
My second story was about student’s opinions on the new XBOX One and PS4 consoles. I
interviewed my classmate Christian Owens for this story as I knew he would have an interesting view
on each console. However I tried to ask questions which could not give me biased answers about
the consoles. I felt the interview with Christian went well the audio was very clear and you are able
to understand everything that’s being said easily. On my original edit there was very little dead air,
so after I edited out the little unnecessary parts the record only came to 00:55 seconds. In some
parts though I felt that the dialog was being spoken at too fast a pace.I asked informative questions
as I was trying to find out Christian’s opinions however I would say my questions were also
promotional to both consoles as they were the focus of my interview. One of the informative
questions I asked was, “Do you think the consoles are good value for money and why?”. This was
light news as it isn’t about any serious or adult matters. The interview wasn’t very informal as my
questions when straight to the point as I felt that this interview shouldn’t be too long as people not
interested in either of the consoles would lose interest. I felt that the editing on this story was the
easiest as their wasn’t a lot of audio I had to cut. I would say this was my most successful news story,
as I gathered the information I wanted quickly and because I could use all of the recorded audio.
Berlin Trip Review
My third and final story was about the media classes’ trip to Berlin, I interviewed my classmate
Georgia Braidwood for this story as she is one of the students attending the trip. The focus of this
interview was Georgia’s opinions about she thinks the trip would be, I asked informative questions
such as “So Georgia what are you looking forward to most about Berlin?” and “Do you think it will be
a good learning experience? “ as I thought these would be interesting things to listen about. I would
say this story was also promotional for the Berlin Trip as that was the base of the story. This
interview required a lot more editing compared to my other two stories as some of the audio that
was recorded was muffled and difficult to understand. This meant I had to cut out all of the useless
audio which took the time of the final edit to 00:37. I asked informative questions that would get
more in depth answers as I wanted to learn as much about her opinions of the holiday as possible,
this was due to the fact I thought it would keep listeners attention to my story. This story was light
2. news as it was not about any serious matters. I would say this was my least successful news stories,
purely because of the amount of editing I had to do on the raw audio.
Survey Monkey
After I finished my three radio stories, I made a questionnaire and gave it to 5 people in my class
after they listened to my recordings. The Print screen’s below show the results of my questionnaire.
From those results I can see that overall my radio stories received mostly positive feedback and that
all 5 people thought my stories were interesting and thought the dialog flowed well.
