The Jackson County Amateur Radio Emergency Service is a group of licensed amateur radio operators trained in emergency communications. They provide back-up communications for agencies like emergency management, hospitals, fire departments, and others when normal systems have failed. The organization is part of a statewide and national emergency radio structure and has radio equipment at emergency operation centers, hospitals, fire stations, and portable kits. Members undergo training in incident command procedures, digital communications, and field operations and participate in regular exercises to simulate emergency responses.
