3. Plato’s Objection & Aristotle’s Replies
Aristotle was the great disciple of Plato, and it was he who took
up the challenges of
Plato show that poetry was not only pleasure but also useful for
humanity
Though Aristotle does not directly refer to Plato, yet much of
the poetic is a covert
reply to his great master.
Aristotle suggest that poetry moulds the character of the
individual.
In contract to his master, he said that the poets or the artist
world was not a shadow
Of shadows, but a real world made more pleasant by the artistic
vision.

4. Imitation is a creative process. The poet while imitating reality
tranforms it into
Something new and much higher.
Aristotle brought the emotions within the range of imitation.
Plato linked poetry to painting.
Aristotle linked it to music.
According to Plato, poetry imitates only surface appearances, as does
a painter.

5. While the Aristotle poetry imitates not only the external but also
internal emotions and
experience.
In Plato's views poetry present a copy of nature as it is.
Poetry is not concerned version of reality. Thus the two differ widely in
their views on
poetic truth.
Aristotle takes up the objection of Plato one by one and justifies poetry
morality immorality
and intellectually.
We get no corresponding theory in Plato.

6. Plato had taken up the cudgels on behalf of philosophy, and
his purpose was to show
their philosophy.
And his purpose was to show that philosophy is superior
replace poetry in schools.
Aristotle on the other hand takes of the cudgels on behalf of
poetry. And effwctively
brings out its superiority.
In his view poetry is to preferred both to history and
philosophy.
