Building a solid API is a challenge but getting our APIs to be adopted by a larger audience, we quickly realized that having solid SDKs is the key element. At Rubrik we have been developing SDKs to supplement our APIs for over 3 years and during this process we have been making sure our SDKs provide a seamless experience for end-users to consume. When breaking API changes occur during the development of our product. The key takeaways of this session are: * How to strategize SDK development against an ever-changing API * Securely open-source your SDK development process

The web is changing every day and it’s so hard to follow and implement all the new and fancy stuff that is being built. Cool new frameworks, libraries, methodologies and new approaches to solving problems. Usually is not that easy to deprecate some old technology and migrate to the new one. There are not many developers that still want to work with Angular 1 or Backbone and moving to something new is becoming necessary. If this sounds familiar to you, then this talk is for you! There is an innovative way to migrate from the old technology, to change the applications step by step

Microservices is a well-known term for recently year. But the truth is that it mostly focused on backends site while the frontend is still a monolithic application. This presentation intends to provide the necessary tooling to achieve independent apps loaded separately and run on different parts on a single web page in complete isolation which is officially called micro-frontends.

During the past 8 years, Fiverr migrated from a LAMP architecture all the way to 200~ Microservices with more than a dozen teams pushing a few hundred deploys a week. Working inside the monolith was simple, all data was available but the move to microservices presented challenges as data was exposed via REST API, which caused performance and reliability issues, dependencies between teams and much more... If you feel that your current strategy for sharing data is brittle this talk is for you! I'll present our robust solution for sharing data across Microservices, utilizing Kafka as a data hub using techniques borrowed from CQRS and DDD to tie everything together and iterate much faster!

If you already worked with the e-commerce software Magento you know it's the same as with folk music or Bayern Munich: you either love it or you hate it. The reason for this is that Magento is both flexible and complex, resource intensive and very capable. Plus it's about 7 years old now and still it's one of the (if not the) most popular cart softwares. But behold! Finally, Magento 2 is on the horizon and should be available by the end of the year. Let's have a look at the foundation of Magento 2, its current state and when you may want to use it.

SharePoint Framework (SPFx) promoted as "the future of SharePoint development" has been released in developer preview. The framework might be new, but that is a framework that we all have been longing for quite some time. Client-side development has been here for years and we all built our own frameworks. This model leverages techniques we are used to such as CSOM, the SharePoint REST API's, the Microsoft Graph etc. and at the same time embraces open source technologies such as node.js, Gulp, Yeoman and more. I will talk about SharePoint Development Model Evolution and demonstrate use of Light Weight Components with SPFx by developing client side Web Parts.

Imagine an application that has a web and a mobile, IOS and Android, or that your API is consumed by similar frontends from totally different teams. The functionalities they provide are distinct, hence the need for distinct sets of data and functions. You might think that the solution for this is having an “as generic as possible” backend for all UI’s. From my experience, this kind of backend leads to big issues in matters of performance, entangled user experience as well as extra and unnecessary communication for the development teams in order to align and meet their needs. Fortunately, there is a promising set of approaches taking the stage as they are created with the intention to optimize how front-end applications collaborate with back-ends: BFF (Backend-For-Frontend) pattern and GraphQL. Given these two approaches, which one is the right to consider? Join me in a talk where we will discuss the two approaches, underline both their good and bad sides, and determine which you should consider as the backend technology for your frontend application.

Syngulon’s technology expands the capacity for selection of microorganisms. The ability to select individual microbes with a behavior of interest is essential, whether for simple cloning at the bench, or for industry-scale production. Synthetic biology uses the concept of “bioengineering” to improve or modify existing genetic systems to create microbes with desired behaviors, and Syngulon uses this approach to develop its selection technologies. This selection technology is based on bacteriocins, ribosomally-produced peptides naturally made by most bacteria to kill competitive microbial species. These bacteriocins can have a limited or wide target range against other microbial species. This technology offers advantageous over antibiotic selection for several reasons: it avoids the use of antibiotics in the first place, helping to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistant microbes. The technology also increases product yield; as bacteriocins are generally smaller peptides, they do not impose a heavy metabolic burden on the producing cell. They can have a wide target specificity, helping to avoid genetic drift. Finally, our system is 100% plasmid-based (e.g. without chromosomal mutations), making it applicable for use in any E. coli strains.

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “Enterprise Knowledge Graphs: The Importance of Semantics” on May 9, 2024, at the annual Data Summit in Boston. In her presentation, Hedden describes the components of an enterprise knowledge graph and provides further insight into the semantic layer – or knowledge model – component, which includes an ontology and controlled vocabularies, such as taxonomies, for controlled metadata. While data experts tend to focus on the graph database components (RDF triple store or a label property graph), Hedden emphasizes they should not overlook the importance of the semantic layer.
