3. Blowin’ in the Wind lyrics by Bob Dylan
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
4. Yes, 'n how many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n how many times can a man turn his head,
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
5. Yes, 'n how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
6. Pentecost
Acts 2
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all
together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the
blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled
the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw
what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and
came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other
tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.
7. 36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made
this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart
and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what
shall we do?”
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of
you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The
promise is for you and your children and for all who are far
off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

• Based on the devotional book Jesus Calling

• Song of the week
Once a week listen to a Christian song. Many
of these songs have stories behind them. For
example, Michael W. Smith has a song, There She
Stands, that relates to the events of Sept.11.

God has given us all we need to “do devotions” with kids. You don’t have to read all of John Calvin’s Institutes or have a PhD in theology to be used by the Holy Spirit to help children in their faith walk. While those things may be helpful, God has given each Christian teacher the Holy Spirit and talents to be used to bring children into a closer relationship with God. What may work well with one teacher in his or her classroom may not work as well in another teacher’s classroom. We can always learn from other people, but please be encouraged and know that God has already equipped you by giving you His Holy Spirit.

Care about children
This list is not meant to be inclusive, but I’d like to share a few examples from these different categories. Later we’ll talk about prayer.
Bible curriculum has us study the books of Philippines and Psalms so we took that material and use it for devotions.
**Discuss in groups how you have used a book of the Bible in devotions.
Nicole Van Wyk at PCHS_ The italicized part is supposed to be what God is saying to you that day. Then the author of the blog elaborates on what that looks like.
I love using this blog, I read it to my students every morning!
Jesus Calling: Used in both second grade and high school special education. The book is written like Jesus is doing the talking.

Students can also look at scripture and find an object to remind them of that scripture
one of the 6th graders usually volunteers on a Monday to put up their pictures…and they put those up along with their paper they fill out. That stays up all week and the 7th and 8th graders usually stop in and read them too to get to know the “rookies” as they call them. Then, on friday morning during devotion time, they share their paper and tell us about their pictures. Then I have them sit on the table up front and we all take turns writing down things we love about that person around them on the white board. Then I take a picture of that kiddo and I send it to their parents and them with a little note about how much I value them and what makes them special. When I pray at the end of devotion time, we make sure to say a little special prayer for the person who had “In His Image” that week.

Get together in your groups again and see if you have any additional ideas for subject based or object based devotions. Again, look at the discussion questions if you have extra time.
as devotions with 7th graders
Process- He reads a passage from the Bible, explains it and has a prayer connected to devotions. He has about 10 minutes for devotions. His style was developed after going to Israel with Ray Vander Laan where they learned how the Israelites-and Jesus- would read from Scriptures and then “preach”. He tries to model that by making the text greater than what he says.
FROG
The kids will ask questions but usually at a later time.
Optional- share power point of Aunt Leanne
