This document summarizes a 3-part webinar series on PLM challenges. Part 2 focuses on decreasing downtime and minimizing production problems. It describes how King Automation used Siemens' Tecnomatix Process Simulate software to successfully complete a project involving new software, training, and execution of customer requirements. Partnering with Waltonen and Geometric Solutions helped minimize risks and ensure success. The solution allowed King Automation to increase their scope of work, complete more offline, and build strong partner relationships.

4. King Automation, Inc. is a fast growing company within the Industrial Automation industry
primarily focused in Automotive. We specialize in Engineering, Design Process and
project Services. Our services include Solution Implementation, Software Development
for PLCs and Supervisory HMI, configuration and commissioning of Servo Drivers/Servo
Motion, Electrical installation, assembly and
safety services. King Automation uses
controllers to handle equipment and machine
logic, motion control functions and conveyor
lines as well as robot cells and paint process
among others.

• Industry Direction: The industry we are
working in is constantly evolving and
growing. In addition we are seeing a
reduction in the completion time of projects
due to technology and better tools.
Business Climate/Challenges:
• Customer OEM Direction: Our customer base is growing and we are seeing
many of our partners using PLM solutions.
• King Automation Challenges: Biggest challenges King Automation is facing
are manpower and time. Delivering a solution for clients in a timely manners
is crucial for success. Another challenge is the understanding the capabilities
of this type of software.

• Better able to support project documentation to get customer approval.
• Positioned King Automation for future projects because of our success with
current and new clients.

Geometric Solutions and Waltonen:
• Allowed us to increase the scope of the business and better meet the needs
of our customers

us to do more work offline throughout the project rather than once it was
physically installed
• Saved time and money on current and future projects
• Built a strong relationship with Geometric Solutions, who helped us select the

• Each company agreed to undertake the execution of specific elements of the
project
• Both companies worked together – one standard approach was used
• Training for both companies was arranged by Geometric Solutions with
Siemens to ensure balanced training on the software, and requirements for
the completion of the project as well as ensuring the OEM standards were
maintained.

• Robot Controller Simulation (RCS) module
• Off Line Programming (OLP) package

RCS Module
• Produced by the robot manufacturer and supplies accurate data for motion
planning and reverse kinematics
• It contains accurate joint values for motion
• Allows for the optimal path of motion between points in space
• The RCS module passes information back to Process Simulate to create a
Realistic Robot Simulation (RRS)
• Using the RCS module results in a highly accurate simulation
• Encountering problems the RCS module returns detailed warning and error
messages to help resolve problems and improve simulations

OLP Package
To Use the RCS for creating RRS you should also use the OLP package for the robot.
The OLP package includes the following components:
• Simulation Controller
- Performs simulation according to the specific controller logic
• Custom Teach Pendant
- Allows the user to control parameters commands specific to this robot
• Application for downloading & uploading robotic programs
- Download and upload completed programs to and from your robot
Tecnomatix may add controllers as required, and customers can define their own with
assistance.
