2. Personal Statement Although I achieved my Associates and Bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry back in 1994, I have always had a strong interest in the field of Psychology. Over the years, my interests have become more fine-tuned towards the field of Criminal Psychology. Having watched shows like “The New Detectives” and “Most Evil”, I have found myself increasingly fascinated by human motivations and what biological or psychological aspects contributed to different kinds of criminal behavior. I plan on developing a Field Profiling computer program that will assist law enforcement and help investigators draw more informed conclusions. I believe that my training in the Sciences and IT Technology can bring unique perspective to the field of Criminal Psychology.
4. Reflection Reflection I have learned to develop my cognitive abilities, personal insight and understanding of the world around me. I’ve learned how to set up and conduct research studies. I’ve learned how to better understand substance abuse and addiction. I’ve developed a stronger interest in Criminal Law. I hope to one day make a difference in people’s lives. 7. My Future in Learning I would eventually like to achieve credentials (PhD) for the ability to design and conduct research and write authoritative papers about topics I am passionate about (PTSD). I have a strong interest in Forensic Psychology and can see myself writing about my discoveries or the development of new insights that lead to a better understanding about the human mind. I would also like to get practical experience in counseling youth and adults (community outreach) and hope one day to teach what I have learned in my area of specialty. I would also like to interview incarcerated criminals and study case files to gain more insight into criminal motivation. I have this idea of eventually developing a “20 questions” style program that asks for details about a case and directs or enlightens law enforcement towards apprehension. Using my experience with enterprise applications, I would like this program to contain my personal insights but also be customizable so that persons with a particular level of expertise can integrate their knowledge into the program.
