“Unuttered Words”
A number of years ago, a speaker in the chapel
services at Freed-Hardeman told of a cemetery next to a
church in England. While wandering through the ceme-
tery he noticed one tombstone with the epitaph: “He died
by reason of unuttered words”. His curiosity was aroused
and he sought out the rest of the story from the minister
at the church.
He learned that the one buried in that grave was
a young man who had disappointed his father by taking
up drinking. His father had become angry and on one
evening when the young man came in after drinking with
some friends at a local pub, his father met him and told
him to get his things and get out. Both became angry and
the young man left on his motorcycle. A few hours later
the police came to that home to announce that the young
man had had an accident and was killed.
The father was heartbroken and blamed himself
for not having worked with his son to help him overcome
his drinking habit. If only he had taken time to speak to
his son, things might have been entirely different. So the
father ordered the tombstone with the words, “He died by
reason of unuttered words”.
Such incidents as that have happened too often,
But what is far more serious is when this happens in re-
gard to one’s spiritual well being that may lead to one’s
spiritual death Four different times in the book of Revela-
tion John speaks of the “second death.” In writing to the
church at Smyrna, Jesus said, “He who has an ear, let
him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He
who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second
death.” The second death is the death of the spirit. Twice
John mentions this. In Rev.20:14 he said, “Then Death
and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the
second death.” Then in the 21 chapter at verse he
writes, “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable,
murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters,
and all liars shall have their part in the lake which
burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second
death.” Now imagine if you will a cemetery of those who
have died the second death and consider how many of
them might have their tombstone inscribed with the
words, “He died by reason of unuttered words.”
We can understand how that father in England
must have felt and what it was like to have to live with the
conviction that his unspoken word led to his son’s death.
What about those who die without ever having any knowl-
edge of Christ, who live and die without ever obeying
Him? There is a song that we would sometimes sing that
stated, “When in the better land before the bar we stand,
How deeply grieved our souls will be; If any lost one there
should cry in deep despair, ‘You never mentioned Him to
me.’ You never mentioned Him to me, You helped me not
the light to see; You met me day by day and knew I was
astray, Yet never mentioned Him to me.”
May God forgive our failures in time past and
help us henceforth to do what we can to reach out to find
the lost and teach them God’s will for their salvation. May
we never be guilty of failing to utter the word of God to
those we know are lost.
Elders, Deacons, and Church Family
Thank you! We have truly enjoyed having
Rachel Townley in the ministry here at
Central Church of Christ and we will miss
her as she moves on in her career path. We
just want to thank you for sharing her with
us. Her leadership, servant heart, and hum-
ble attitude has benefited the entire group
and will leave a void in the future. We will
continue to pray for her and all the graduat-
ing seniors and we ask that you pray for this
ministry as well. We cannot do this without
wonderful supporters like yourself!
With Love,
The Tide for Christ Student Ministry

Update From The Elders
1. Paving– The paving project has
been completed and we have
added almost 50 paved parking
spaces.
2. Windows– The fogged glass in
the auditorium and fellowship
hall is being replaced with new
safety glass. This project should
be completed in the next few
weeks.
3. Transportation– All of our buses
are now paid in full and we have
purchased a bus barn to house
them in.
4. Fellowship– Several tents were
purchased and used at our recent
picnic. These will enable the
Church to fellowship outdoors
and will supplement our new
pavilion once it is constructed.
5. New Classrooms - We are com-
pleting plans for additional class
room space and hope to begin
construction in the near future.
This should bring everyone as up to
date as possible. We will continue to up-
date you from time to time but if you do
have a specific question, please see one
of the Elders. We love each of you and
thank you for your love for God and this
Church. May God richly bless you.
The Elders
Dear Friends,
We want to thank all of you for all the love
sent through the many cards sent while we were
away from Church. The prayers were heard and
answered by our great almighty Lord. We love
you and are so very blessed to be part of this
Church Family.
Fran and Charlie Chaney
Dear Church Family,
Thank you so very much for all the lovely
Birthday cards with the money inside! It was
such a pleasant surprise! I miss and love you all
and look forward to seeing you when I’m able to
return to Church.
