The food pantry is extremely low at this time. We have purposely let our food pantry
run low on canned good because of the move. It is hard to believe that in our world
there are people who depend on us as their sole means of food. Take for instance a
man named James. He has spent several years in prison and is trying to make a better
life for himself. When he found out we were moving he wanted to know where we
were moving. He comes by about once a week for a bag of food. He also wants to
fill up his water bottle from the faucet. James lives in an apartment close to us. We
are fairly sure he has no running water or money for food. He is struggling to pay rent
and utilities. He always ask for material to read as this is his only entertainment. So
with the food pantry we are slowly giving him religious material and inviting him to
come and worship with us. One can of food that you bring each Sunday is being used
to spread the word of God. Here is a list of food that is needed:
Canned Meats, Soups, Canned Fruit, Green Beans, Corn, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Chili,
Tomatoes, Spaghetti Sauce, Beanie Weenies, Canned Beans, Mexican Food, Juice,
Mixed Vegetables, Peas, Sweet Potatoes, Canned Pasta, any canned goods, no boxes
or fresh food.

Learning from Paul’s Friends
Paul’s companions were faithful to God, to the
work and to their brothers and sisters in Christ. As
we look at two of those companions we want to notice
their outstanding qualities that we might imitate them in
our lives of service to God.
Timothy was perhaps Paul’s closest friend and
companion in the work of God. He had been taught and
baptized by Paul. “Unto Timothy, my own son in the
faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father
and Jesus Christ our Lord” (I Tim. 1:2). He was often
with Paul in his travels preaching the gospel. In three
books of the New Testament we read of Timothy a travel-
ing companion to Paul. Acts 20:4 – “And there accom-
panied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the
Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius
of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and
Trophimus.” Rom. 16:21 – “Timotheus my workfellow,
and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen,
salute you.” II Cor. 1:1 – “Paul, an apostle of Jesus
Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all
the saints which are in all Achaia.”
Of all his traveling companions Paul acknowledge
that there was no one who would so greatly care for the
Philippians like Timothy. He wrote to the church at Philippi
telling them that he was sending Timothy to them that he
could inform Paul of how the brethren in Philippi were do-
ing. He explained that the reason for sending Timothy was
simply because, “…I have no man likeminded, who will
naturally care for your state.” Others did not share in
his concern for the Philippians because they were con-
cerned only for themselves. It may be that there were no
other Christians in Rome who were concerned for anyone
but themselves. It may be that Paul was talking about the
world in general. None of the people in the world were
concerned about anyone but themselves. Timo-
thy, however, is concerned and Paul will send him to Phi-
lippi. Timothy has proven himself! Phil. 2:22 – But ye
know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father,
he hath served with me in the gospel.” Timothy had
been to Philippi with Paul. On such a hard mission-
ary journey, Timothy had been tested and proven worthy
of such responsibility. (Acts 16). The word that Paul
used when he said that Timothy had “served” with him is
the word edouleusen, which is the verb form of the word
doulos, or slave. Thus the meaning of this word is to
“serve as a slave.”
What do we need to learn from Timothy? Like
Timothy we need to have a genuine care for our brothers
and sisters in Christ. Paul told the brethren in Corinth
“That there should be no schism in the body; but that
the members should have the same care one for an-
other” (I Cor. 12:25). Again he told the church at Thessa-
lonica, “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who
are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak,
be patient with all.” (I Thess. 5:14 NKJV)

Connection Groups
It is time to start up
our connection groups.
If you would like to be part of a wonderful
group of people please sign up in the foyer.
The connection groups will be meeting Sep-
tember thru November. We will break for
the holidays in December and regroup for
January. This is a great way to get to know
your fellow Christians and be edified. We
will be meeting on Tuesday and Thursday
nights. The Care Groups are different from
Connections as we remain in the same
group. Care Groups are to keep track of our
fellow Christians. Each care group has a
leader who will check on you.
