OBJECTIVE:
Student will be able to:
a) Begin to form their own definitions of dance through brainstorming.
b) Develop their critical thinking skills by describing, interpreting and evaluating exemplary dance
works.
c) Identify the different types of dance.
d) Share the importance of dance into your life.
e) Perform and execute the dance routine combining the different types of dance movement.
f) Compare and contrast two or three dances viewed.
STARTER ACTIVITY
1. Write your name using your Dominant and non-
dominant hands?
2. Use your feet to write your best friend name.
3. what and how they feel when writing using their hands
and feet.?
BRAINSTORMING
What is Dance?
Move rhythmically to music, typically following a set sequence of steps.
A series of movements that match the speed and rhythm of a piece of music
Artistic form of non-verbal communication
To express pleasure by motion.
Is the act of moving the body to express themselves through rhythmic
movements.
Is normally for fun and entertainment.
Preparing to Dance
Think positive that you can dance.
Appreciate your body.
Listen and feel the rhythm.
Move your body.
Learn the steps.
Be patient

AXIAL MOVEMENTS
AXIAL MOVEMENT - are the movement done in place.
Bend or Flex – to move the body or part of the body around a wide axis.
Lift; rise – to elevate a part of the body or the whole body to a desired
level.
Stretch, extend, and straighten – to lengthen a part of the body.
Twist – to move a body around a long axis.
Circle – to move a body around a point.
Swing – to move continuously from one point to the other.
Turn, Rotate – to change direction to move around an axis.
LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
the movement that transfer from one place to another.
Walk – is a series of steps in all directions.
Run – is a walk with longer strides and there is a push-off by
the foot suspending the body momentarily in air.
Hop – is spring on one foot and land on the same foot.
Skip – is a step and hop with the same foot in one count.
Leap – is to spring on one foot and land on the other foot.
Jump – is to spring on both feet and land on one or both fee.
Gallop – a combined step and cut.
Slide – is to glide the foot right and left along a smooth surface.
