Conserving energy is important as it helps the environment by reducing pollution that is put into the air, water, and soil. Conserving energy now helps present and future generations help heal the earth from what we already have done.
Nonrenewable energy takes millions of years below the earth to form. Therefore making them nonrenewable energy resources. Most of these resources pollute the air, water, and soil. Three main sources of nonrenewable energy resources include;
Oil spills into the ocean and soil, when it is burned it sends off harmful fumes.
Coal and Natural gas also pollute the air. They can also be very dangerous if not used properly.
Renewable energy also comes from the earth, but this type can be replenished. We will not run out of this type of energy as long as we continue to make more of it. Garbage such as left over food can be used as an energy resource, among others including;
Biomass energy it is left over food, and the soil from harvested crops. This is used to make fuel. Researchers and farmers are now using the grains themselves to make fuel.
Wind energy is the cleanest form of renewable energy. Wind turbines are used to make electricity used from the wind. Using this type of energy reduces pollution and energy costs.
There are many things one can do at home and outside of the home to conserve energy and help the environment. Recycling, cleaning up your local beaches and neighborhood and conserving energy are a few things one can do to help. Things that you can do at home are;
Turn off lights when you are not using them. Open your blinds or curtains to let the sun be your light. At night ask your parents if you can use a candle while reading, instead of a lamp. Also unplug appliances that are not in use, although they are not being used they still use electricity.
Do not wash clothes if you do not have a full load. Same when using the dish washer, only start it when there is a full load. Try brushing your teeth, and shaving while in the shower or tub. Turn off the water while shaving, brushing teeth, and lathering your hands. Doing these things conserves water and helps save energy as well.
Instead of riding the bus to school walk or ride with friends or parents. Ask your parents to conserve by carpooling to work.
The government can help by actually helping the environment even at home. It is easy enough to say one is going to do something but to act upon is doing much more. They could also change and add laws. Although just changing and adding new environmental laws does not do any good if they do not enforce them.
Starting at home is a big step into conserving and helping the environment. Remember if we use up all of our nonrenewable resources we will not have them any longer, unless you plan on living for the next millions of years. We must protect our earth so that we and generations after us will not have to worry about breathing toxic air, or acid rain, or even global warming. We can do this by using our renewable natural resources, recycling and cleaning up our environment. It is not enough to do what you can just while you are living. Your voice and actions must be heard and shown for generations to come.
