Defining Change Essay
Defining Change
Change can be defined as an event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to
another, the result of alteration or modification, to lay aside, abandon, or leave for another, become
different in essence; to lose one's or its original nature, to make different; cause a transformation, or
to make or become different in some particular way, without permanently losing one's or its former
characteristics or essence. There are many different views as to the complexity of change. Some
may believe change is an illusion and nothing ever really changes. However, the majority, such as the
post structuralism theorists, believe that change is inevitable. Change can be viewed...show more

Also, our political world would not be the same. How would we advance in our associations with
other countries, if not for the effects of change? Our government, our laws, our beliefs would not
have changed from those of our early ancestors. Hence, it is visible that without change our society
would be 'stuck in a rut' – with no way to advance and improve.
Roland Barthes was interested in the way that signifiers – words which are derived of meaning
unless associated with an image or object – were related to each other (intertextuality) and the way
they reflect the context and culture from which they came. He believed that no text can stand alone
as an isolated work. Rather they echo and reflect each other. Thus, he said, we should never do
author centered studies and wrote of the "Death of the Author". Rather, he stated that we should look
at a text in its relation to other texts. Barthes ideas led to Post structuralism.
Structuralists believed that meaning in literature could be determined by studying the language
structures – the signs or signifiers – which represented ideas within a particular culture e.g. white as
a sign or symbol of purity or innocence. Post Structuralists, however, argued that meaning can never
be fully understood because the cultural ideas represented by those "signs" are themselves
constructed by a society rather than

Persistence Essay Examples
"Persistence guarantees that results are inevitable." – Paramahansa Yogananda. Persistence is an
important trait to have as it allows one to push through adversity, accomplish tasks that they would
not be able to if one did not have the trait of persistence. As defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary
persistence means the quality that allows someone to continue doing something or trying to do
something even though it is difficult or opposed by other people. The modern word persistence
originates from the latin word persistent meaning continuing steadfastly. Persistence is the ability to
repeatedly strive for success after being knocked down and never give up, to keep going when

left side of my forehead. They shot my friends too. They thought that the bullets would silence us.
But they failed." Malala was shot in the head for continually pursuing her dream for equal
education. She never quit fighting for what she believed in. Malala has always dreamed for equal
education, she has taken this belief from her father. She always spoke out courageously for what
she believed in. She was shot in the head because she is standing up against what the Taliban
believe is right. She survived and is still pursuing her dream for education for girls. She used the
trait of persistence by never giving up and striving to succeed in equal education. If she did not
use persistence she would not have accomplished what she has. Most people after being shot
would quit and say it is not worth it, she did not quit. Malala always worked hard to be the best in
her class, she was not satisfied if she was not the one that all the teachers loved. She never quit
and would work harder than everyone else. Malala is super competitive and has always wanted to
be the best in her class. "I worked hard and had managed to regain my position on the school
honor board for first in class." She is always working harder than others to achieve the best grade in
the class. This shows how she is persistent on being the best. Persistence is one of

Definition of Education Essay
Definition of Education
Education what is it? It is defined as: 1. The act or process of educating or being educated. 2. The
knowledge or skill obtained or developed by a learning process. 3. A program of instruction of a
specified kind or level. 4.
The field of study that is concerned with the pedagogy of teaching and learning, according to the
American Heritage dictionary. Its etymology comes from the
Latin word "educatio which means to bring up"1 But what does that tell us. It says to me that
education is training not learning.

It is stated nowhere. Education should be about becoming enlightened to the works of the world.
I am not saying becoming a lawyer or a business person is wrong or inimical. What I am saying is
being a artist or philosopher is just as advantageous. In fact art and philosophy should be made
standard issue in schools. We all need to know how to think for ourselves. This is not an easy thing
to accomplish, we would need more money for schools in order to pay for teachers and materials.
This would not completely solve the problem however.
We must change the way we think and take control of ourselves. It is essential that we not be lead
blindly. It is time that we hold people accountable for their actions. No longer are we be to lead by
people just because they belong to a political party that we belong to. Instead we must be
independent in our thoughts. Most importantly education should be a tool not a crutch.
Education is defined in many ways, however, they all mean the same thing.
To be formed into the mold of a productive worker. What does this do for the world? Nothing, it
creates another mindless drone to carry out the work of its master. The people in power do not
want this to change because it serves their purposes. We must change or over time we will lose our
ability to think for ourselves. Then we are truly "dammed" to subservience. What type of life could
that ever be? A life in which we could not

Essay on My Hobby of Fishing
My Hobby of Fishing
One of my favorite hobbies is fishing. Some people regard this as a boring or an old man's sport,
but I value it much more than that. If you have never experienced it, I think you are really missing
something, and so you can't truly give your honest opinion on the sport. Humans have been
captivated with the sea, and catching fish since the beginning of their existence, and the sport has,
in many ways evolved hugely, and yet in many aspects has stayed exactly the same. The sport is
unique compared to others, and I find it can be anything from a relaxing, to a very intense
experience, and every time is different.
I was introduced to fishing by my father when I was only 4...show more content...
This is one of my most memorable experiences because we were just hauling fish after fish into the
boat when we hit a shoal of mackerel off a ship wreck. After almost filling a whole bin bag with fish,
we called it a day, just as a pod of dolphin appeared. My auntie, who lives in Cornwall, was probably
eating fish for weeks after we brought back that many.
Every year now, I go fishing down in Cornwall either in my uncle's boat, or just off the shoreline.
To my mind, each and every time I go fishing is unique just for the experience and no incident is
ever forgotten. The range of things I have caught, in what I think of as not the most exotic of places,
also quite surprises me; I have caught everything from dogfish to cuttlefish, conger eels to sea gulls –
but that's another story, and of course, every anglers worst nightmare, (apart from a hole in the
boat and sinking), catching the bottom (the sea bed) or the rocks because you lose most of your
tackle. Out of all of these things, the most memorable catch to me would be the 5lb bass I caught
this last summer. Bass is one of the most expensive fish, at 5 pounds to the pound and it was quite
pleasing to catch your own, then to roast it on the barbeque that evening. Fishing has proven to be
Britain's number one sport – with

Crazy Definition Essay
A common quote used more often than not in today's society, whether held to be true or a fallacy,
is "everyone is their own kind of crazy". As defined in numerous different ways, "crazy" can
perceive multiple actions or psychological thoughts. For example: crazy (adj.)В mentally

can take on so many different meanings and intentions based on the context of its passage. Some
usages have a positive definition, whereas others are negative. Assuming and interpreting "crazy"
with just one meaning is conceptually incorrect based on realВlife and fatuous occasions and using
the word in the wrong form may cause individuals to be offended. So who is to say what

What is Home? Essay
What is home? If one looks in a dictionary the answer would come out to be, "The place where one
lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household." However, for anyone who
has had an actual home, they would know that such a term goes much beyond its concrete
description. It is an impassioned aspect filled with values and foundation of nurturing. A home is
not just an abode built to live in; in fact, that is just a definition of a house. Home is a place where
one not only feels comfortable, but a place they look forward to opportunely live in every day. A
home is built not by bricks or wood, but with the bond of family. A home is a place that reminds a
person of countless memories and values when he walks through a...show more content...
Family is what makes a house a home; this statement is undeniably precise. A person could have
every material entity in the entire world, but it would mean nothing if he does not have someone
to share it with. In other words, home is also semantically related to sharing the happiness, grief,
and material things with one's family. A home gives people a place to care about the people that
mean the most to them. It is a place to tell amusing tales, a good story, or make memorable
memories with one another. Furthermore, home is more than a place; it is a feeling. It is a
feeling of contentment and happiness that they share with the ones they love. Moreover, home is
when one knows they are with people that can drive them insane in a second, and the same people
can make them happy in a second as well. Home means that no matter what one is going through,
no matter how challenging life gets, there will be someone looking out for them. One knows that a
place is their home when they are comfortable enough to present a true description of themselves,
because they know that they will receive definitive acceptance. It is a sanctuary for them where
they can do anything they please and not be judged afterwards. It is where one can share the
absurdity of their day without any remorse or repercussions. The reason why people say that a
person only has one true home is because one will

What it Means to be an American Essay
What it Means to be an American What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an
American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the
only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not
have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died
for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first

and to live in a place were small wars are not going on between states or communities. The U.S.

people. Instead we have one of the most powerful economy in the world. America offers so much
to the people who live in the U.S., but America will always be full of criticism, violence, and
people who are offended by everything. America still seems to manage to be one of the world's
best nations. The first Americans planned America to be as successful as it is, but for America to
be more peaceful. America is not one of the most peaceful places, but it is not the most dangerous
place to live. Even political parties lie and cheat each other. A lot of the Americans are greedy,
because they take advantages of what America offers to their citizens. Even though America is not
perfect I am still glad to live in the U.S.

Music
Music; Indefinable by words alone. It is not only something you can hear but what you can feel. It
is something your soul is able to reach out and touch. Music also has the power to bring us as
humans, together. It is one language spoken by all cultures, sexes, races, age and religions. Music
also controls our emotions; it makes us happy, sad, angry, relaxed, etc. We also can express
ourselves through music. It can affect our personality.. someone who listens to classical, like
Mozart or Bach, all the time is going to be smarter and more intellectual than someone who listens
to rap or metal, and someone who listens to more upbeat happier music, like Ska or Swing, is more

in music as you, or someone that has the complete opposite taste as you. That's something I see
happen way to much, people bashing on other people because of what they listen to. Instead of
accepting that everyone isn't going to like what you like. Music is supposed to be something we all

It's something that we all do, including me at times. Not only in music but in everyday life.
Music originates from all over the world since the beginning of time. Complex or simple, fast or

"Genius" Defined Essay
The word genius can be used to describe a person, an idea or an invention. As a person, a genius is
one that stands out from a crowd and tackles the most difficult of problems in the simplest of ways.
A genius is not only very clever, but instinct allows them to think outside the box. The term genius
is often associated with names such as Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, JS Bach, William Blake,
and Socrates. These are just a few of history's greatest thinkers who helped shape society with their
innovative ideas. The universal definition of a "genius" is "one who has an exceptional natural
capacity of intellect, especially as shown in creative and original work in science, art, music, etc.'
Genius is also defined as 'a person having...show more content...
Each kind of genius is worlds apart. How a genius is molded from birth to until his death makes him
distinct from others. Values, ideals, and beliefs vary from one mastermind to the next, but the genius
in them is prominent.
Albert Einstein once exclaimed "I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." The
world's greatest geniuses are famous for a profound, open minded sense of curiosity. Curiosity is a
personality trait often found in geniuses. This curiosity is usually the key element behind the
motivation of a genius. "This proclivity towards curiosity or inquisitiveness may explain the breadth
of interests and preference for complexity displayed by creative individuals" (Simonton 49). The
focus of a true genius, whether in sciences, arts, or businesses, is finding new, creative and effective
ways to do things. Curiosity sparks inspiration and creativity. A genius has the ability to do more
than just memorize and recite existing information and ideas. They can discover, create, or invent
new ideas within their particular area of interest. "The word creativity is closely linked to the word
genius, since both words have the root meaning "to give birth". Essentially, creativity designates the
capacity to give birth to new ways of looking at things, the ability to make novel connections
between disparate things, and the knack for seeing things that might be missed by the typical

Feminism Definition Essay
What is feminism? According to Merriam–Webster Dictionary the standard definition defines
feminism as "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes." I believe the
word feminism means a woman who is capable of doing the exact things a man can do. Both men
and women are equal regardless the gender. There are many misconceptions when it comes to the
word feminism such as, women having hatred towards men, women thinking they're above men, or
only women can be feminist, and the gender stereotype. On the other hand, feminism is gender
equality, acknowledging that any kind of violence is unacceptable regardless the gender, and

Individuals need to learn and accept that women and men are capable of doing the same things. It
should be acknowledged that women can do just as much as men can do. Society needs to put
their "beliefs" aside and not view all women as a weak. People should be more open about this
topic, instead of assuming. Women are often put down because of their gender. Although, women are
able to achieve a role a man can accomplish.
A third misconception society expects is, only women can be feminist. As the world changes day by
day many people are becoming feminist. Not only females but, men too. Whenever someone labels
themselves as a feminist it doesn't affect the movement, whether they're a female or male. Instead, it
spreads the word of what feminism really means. For example, my father is a feminist and has no
shame of letting the whole world know. My father believes women should have the freedom to
make their own choices and women should be able to live their lives how they want to with their
educations, careers, bodies, etc. He believes women deserve to have equal pay for the equal
amount of work done. My father is always thinking of ways to spread the positivity of feminism.
Overall, he supports feminism and believes in equality along with freedom.
I strongly believe people should be informed on what the word feminism means. People who haven't
been educated about the word feminism, are most likely to believe the typical stereotypes. Knowing

"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value."

Past, present and future are all important to keep in perspective. Looking back and not having regrets
is extremely satisfying. Your current situation and your contentment with it are also very important,
and having goals and milestones to work toward in the future keeps you motivated and keeps life
interesting and challenging.
In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or
the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I
grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most
successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination.
They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the
$55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would
enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company,
moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed
to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is
practiced, things won't spin out of control.
Bottom line rules for a successful life:
Always try new things.
Listen twice as much as you talk.
Travel as much as you can comfortably afford.

What is a Friend? Who do you consider your friends? For me, a friend is someone who makes you

Semantics Essay
Language is the primary source of communication for humans and is used to convey thoughts,
feelings, intentions, and desires to others (Bonvillain 2008:1). Many rules are taken into account
when forming a language. According to Bolton, language is arbitrary and is unrepresentative of the
objects they represent (Bolton 1996: 63). The study of Semantics allows us to identify the meaning of
words and phrases in their literal sense, and helps us to make meaning out of arbitrary sounds and
phrases. It has been contributed to by both linguists and philosophers. Linguists used lexical
decomposition to understand the features that comprise words and the categories in which the words
fit. Philosophers dealt more with the meanings of sentences and...show more content...
Another occurrence is synonymy, which is when more than one word has the same meaning. An
example of this would be sick and ill. These two words both refer to feeling less than normal, but
to some these two words may have different connotations. By that I mean that some may see ill as
being worse than sick or vice versa. This can create a misunderstanding between speakers or
readers. Another example according to Parker and Riley is big and large. Referring to your sister
as big or large can make a big difference in how people view her; they could see her as being older
than you or as bigger in size (2010:30). Synonymy can also have differences based on formal and
informal settings such as the words woman and lady. This forces readers and writers of English to
choose their words carefully to make sure that the right meaning is conveyed and understood. Yet
another aspect is hyponyms. These are collections of words that go from general to specific terms.
This allows us to use terms to our liking and not necessarily in the most effective way for the
reader or listener to understand us. An example would be to say, "Please hand me a screwdriver."
This sentence is too ambiguous to elicit a precise action because there are many different types of

ways. Everyone has a different understanding of what success means to them. Generally, success
means fulfilling the goals that you set for yourself. For some, success is measured by popularity and

Some feel that it is more important to enjoy work and get less money than it is to hate work and
get paid more. There are many things in life that are overlooked. Everyone has family and it is
important to value that. People who can value their families have achieved success in their own
way. When two people have a child they feel successful simply because they have someone to
love and treasure. The feeling of being able to love your own child and raise that child is success
in life. Feeling healthy mentally and physically has a lot to do with whether or not you feel
successful. If you can come home from the job you love, see your loving family, and then be able
to sit down, relax and appreciate life then you are successful in your own ways. There are many
different understandings of what success is. Some relate success to money, others relate success to
happiness, but it all depends on the type of person.
There is no right or wrong idea of success. It's simply how you want to live your life. Success can
only be achieved if you are willing to believe you can be successful! People may want to give
success an exact definition, but really success can only be what you want to believe it is. Anyone

Dreams Definition Essay
Dreams. We all have them. But why? What causes us to dream about the seemingly most random
things? A dream, by definition, is a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a
person's mind during sleep. Therefore, the quality of a person's sleep must somehow affect their
dreaming patterns. There are 5 stages of sleep that a person passes through each night, supposing
that the person actually goes to sleep. Stage 1 of sleep is very light and lasts for about 10 to 15
minutes. Brain activity lowers to around 50% or more. This slowly leads us into a deeper sleep
and it is not uncommon to experience myoclonic jerks and hypnagogic imagery while thus stage
progresses. During stage 2 of sleep our brain activity lowers even more and the

Defining Intelligence Essay
Intelligence is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as being the capacity to acquire and
apply knowledge. When knowledge is spoken of, it is generally used in terms of education. The
extent of education a person has achieved is then what most often determines how much knowledge
one has accumulated. Nevertheless, with this definition of intelligence in mind, one might possibly
consider the average person to be intelligent. After all, even a person who has never gone to
school a day in their life is capable of acquiring knowledge and applying it to some area of their
life. Acquiring and applying knowledge could be something as simple as being shown how to mop a
floor and then conducting the job using the newly gained know–how.

Children, for instance, all have different areas in which they excel. A child who excels in school
and is listed on the honor roll each term would obviously be considered intelligent. However, a
child who is very talented in music but obtains bad marks in school might not be deemed a smart
child by the average person; nevertheless, this child would also be considered intelligent.
Once a person has an idea of what intelligence is and what it means, a final thought one might
consider is what influences are responsible for the different types of intellect. Two possible
influences are genetics and the environment in which one lives, with genetics being the strongest
influence (Santrock, 2009, pg. 302). Most researchers agree that a person's genetics and environment
interact with one another to influence the outcome of that person's intelligence (Santrock, 2009, pg.
302). Genetic influences should be pretty obvious, so there should be no need to explain it; a
person's environment on the other hand, can involve several factors. An environment can consist of
elements such as a person's school, home, friendships, family relationships, and workplaces. All of
these components factor in to influence a person's intelligence.
In conclusion, I must say that intelligence can certainly be considered a broad word. It is a word
that has varying definitions depending on the source from which the definition comes. The reason
for this seems to be because people

well–mannered person; whose clothes looked neat, clean, and pressed. I thought she was the best
candidate to be my roommate, but I was wrong. The first two weeks after her move–in were a living
hell, she was filthy and a slob. She would leave dirty diapers everywhere, her room looked like a
pig–pin, and the main bathroom smelled so bad. I would often think a bomb had gone off and
wished that I had a gas mask when I would pass by her room and bathroom because I thought the
toxic fumes could possibly kill

What is Love? Essay
Love, Love, Love. We all think about it, dream about it, sing about it, and even lose sleep
worrying about it, but why? Love is such a small word paired with a vital meaning. It's universal,
easy to spell, difficult to define, but impossible to live without. When we don't have it, we search
for it, when we find it, we don't know what to do with it, when we have it, we fear losing it. Love is
the constant source of happiness and sorrow. I am young and I haven't a clue as to what love is, let
alone what falling in love is. However, I have my ideas of what love is like. I have never witnessed
the beauty of people falling in love, or the severity of those falling out of love, so what is love?
Love in general could be frightening. Some...show more content...
I think falling in love with someone happens when you least expect it to, when you're too busy
focusing on other aspects of your life. This is where fate comes into play. That specific person
was led to you for some unknown reason. Out of the blues, it's like your knight in shining amour
that you have longed to be with finally found his/her way to you. There are people in this world
that think they may never fall in love again. You fall at times, but you get back up. You will love
again, and you will also trust again. You have to simply let things get themselves done, that's when
you know it's meant to be, because destiny took its course, and while you were too busy doing
something else, the love of your life came along.
Love dates way back to when the world began. In reality, we really have no idea what love truly is.
Raising questions like, is it even real? We watch love movies, read romance novels, but that's the
sugar–coated, sweet and simple version of it. Meeting someone, fall in love, get married, have
kids, spend the rest of your lives together. What about the suffering we have to endure when falling
in love? Risking everything for that one person? And even when we feel we've reached the end of
the road, this person has the power to leave us at any given moment. We put ourselves out there with
the chance they can break us apart.
Love, as it is with everything,

Ideas For Definition Essay

  • 1. Defining Change Essay Defining Change Change can be defined as an event that occurs when something passes from one state or phase to another, the result of alteration or modification, to lay aside, abandon, or leave for another, become different in essence; to lose one's or its original nature, to make different; cause a transformation, or to make or become different in some particular way, without permanently losing one's or its former characteristics or essence. There are many different views as to the complexity of change. Some may believe change is an illusion and nothing ever really changes. However, the majority, such as the post structuralism theorists, believe that change is inevitable. Change can be viewed...show more content... Also, our political world would not be the same. How would we advance in our associations with other countries, if not for the effects of change? Our government, our laws, our beliefs would not have changed from those of our early ancestors. Hence, it is visible that without change our society would be 'stuck in a rut' – with no way to advance and improve. Roland Barthes was interested in the way that signifiers – words which are derived of meaning unless associated with an image or object – were related to each other (intertextuality) and the way they reflect the context and culture from which they came. He believed that no text can stand alone as an isolated work. Rather they echo and reflect each other. Thus, he said, we should never do author centered studies and wrote of the "Death of the Author". Rather, he stated that we should look at a text in its relation to other texts. Barthes ideas led to Post structuralism. Structuralists believed that meaning in literature could be determined by studying the language structures – the signs or signifiers – which represented ideas within a particular culture e.g. white as a sign or symbol of purity or innocence. Post Structuralists, however, argued that meaning can never be fully understood because the cultural ideas represented by those "signs" are themselves constructed by a society rather than Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persistence Essay Examples "Persistence guarantees that results are inevitable." – Paramahansa Yogananda. Persistence is an important trait to have as it allows one to push through adversity, accomplish tasks that they would not be able to if one did not have the trait of persistence. As defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary persistence means the quality that allows someone to continue doing something or trying to do something even though it is difficult or opposed by other people. The modern word persistence originates from the latin word persistent meaning continuing steadfastly. Persistence is the ability to repeatedly strive for success after being knocked down and never give up, to keep going when everything else is telling one to quit. Persistence is...show more content... In the article I am Malala the text says "On the 9th of October 2012, the Taliban shot me on the left side of my forehead. They shot my friends too. They thought that the bullets would silence us. But they failed." Malala was shot in the head for continually pursuing her dream for equal education. She never quit fighting for what she believed in. Malala has always dreamed for equal education, she has taken this belief from her father. She always spoke out courageously for what she believed in. She was shot in the head because she is standing up against what the Taliban believe is right. She survived and is still pursuing her dream for education for girls. She used the trait of persistence by never giving up and striving to succeed in equal education. If she did not use persistence she would not have accomplished what she has. Most people after being shot would quit and say it is not worth it, she did not quit. Malala always worked hard to be the best in her class, she was not satisfied if she was not the one that all the teachers loved. She never quit and would work harder than everyone else. Malala is super competitive and has always wanted to be the best in her class. "I worked hard and had managed to regain my position on the school honor board for first in class." She is always working harder than others to achieve the best grade in the class. This shows how she is persistent on being the best. Persistence is one of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Definition of Education Essay Definition of Education Education what is it? It is defined as: 1. The act or process of educating or being educated. 2. The knowledge or skill obtained or developed by a learning process. 3. A program of instruction of a specified kind or level. 4. The field of study that is concerned with the pedagogy of teaching and learning, according to the American Heritage dictionary. Its etymology comes from the Latin word "educatio which means to bring up"1 But what does that tell us. It says to me that education is training not learning. Education trains the youth into what society deems as a productive member. We are not educated to seek out what our interests are . We are educated so we can produce things. The age of...show more content... It is stated nowhere. Education should be about becoming enlightened to the works of the world. I am not saying becoming a lawyer or a business person is wrong or inimical. What I am saying is being a artist or philosopher is just as advantageous. In fact art and philosophy should be made standard issue in schools. We all need to know how to think for ourselves. This is not an easy thing to accomplish, we would need more money for schools in order to pay for teachers and materials. This would not completely solve the problem however. We must change the way we think and take control of ourselves. It is essential that we not be lead blindly. It is time that we hold people accountable for their actions. No longer are we be to lead by people just because they belong to a political party that we belong to. Instead we must be independent in our thoughts. Most importantly education should be a tool not a crutch. Education is defined in many ways, however, they all mean the same thing. To be formed into the mold of a productive worker. What does this do for the world? Nothing, it creates another mindless drone to carry out the work of its master. The people in power do not want this to change because it serves their purposes. We must change or over time we will lose our ability to think for ourselves. Then we are truly "dammed" to subservience. What type of life could that ever be? A life in which we could not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on My Hobby of Fishing My Hobby of Fishing One of my favorite hobbies is fishing. Some people regard this as a boring or an old man's sport, but I value it much more than that. If you have never experienced it, I think you are really missing something, and so you can't truly give your honest opinion on the sport. Humans have been captivated with the sea, and catching fish since the beginning of their existence, and the sport has, in many ways evolved hugely, and yet in many aspects has stayed exactly the same. The sport is unique compared to others, and I find it can be anything from a relaxing, to a very intense experience, and every time is different. I was introduced to fishing by my father when I was only 4...show more content... This is one of my most memorable experiences because we were just hauling fish after fish into the boat when we hit a shoal of mackerel off a ship wreck. After almost filling a whole bin bag with fish, we called it a day, just as a pod of dolphin appeared. My auntie, who lives in Cornwall, was probably eating fish for weeks after we brought back that many. Every year now, I go fishing down in Cornwall either in my uncle's boat, or just off the shoreline. To my mind, each and every time I go fishing is unique just for the experience and no incident is ever forgotten. The range of things I have caught, in what I think of as not the most exotic of places, also quite surprises me; I have caught everything from dogfish to cuttlefish, conger eels to sea gulls – but that's another story, and of course, every anglers worst nightmare, (apart from a hole in the boat and sinking), catching the bottom (the sea bed) or the rocks because you lose most of your tackle. Out of all of these things, the most memorable catch to me would be the 5lb bass I caught this last summer. Bass is one of the most expensive fish, at 5 pounds to the pound and it was quite pleasing to catch your own, then to roast it on the barbeque that evening. Fishing has proven to be Britain's number one sport – with Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Crazy Definition Essay A common quote used more often than not in today's society, whether held to be true or a fallacy, is "everyone is their own kind of crazy". As defined in numerous different ways, "crazy" can perceive multiple actions or psychological thoughts. For example: crazy (adj.)В mentally derangedНѕ senselessНѕ extremely enthusiasticНѕ bizarre. It is extraordinary to see how one word can take on so many different meanings and intentions based on the context of its passage. Some usages have a positive definition, whereas others are negative. Assuming and interpreting "crazy" with just one meaning is conceptually incorrect based on realВlife and fatuous occasions and using the word in the wrong form may cause individuals to be offended. • 6. What is Home? Essay What is home? If one looks in a dictionary the answer would come out to be, "The place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household." However, for anyone who has had an actual home, they would know that such a term goes much beyond its concrete description. It is an impassioned aspect filled with values and foundation of nurturing. A home is not just an abode built to live in; in fact, that is just a definition of a house. Home is a place where one not only feels comfortable, but a place they look forward to opportunely live in every day. A home is built not by bricks or wood, but with the bond of family. A home is a place that reminds a person of countless memories and values when he walks through a...show more content... Family is what makes a house a home; this statement is undeniably precise. A person could have every material entity in the entire world, but it would mean nothing if he does not have someone to share it with. In other words, home is also semantically related to sharing the happiness, grief, and material things with one's family. A home gives people a place to care about the people that mean the most to them. It is a place to tell amusing tales, a good story, or make memorable memories with one another. Furthermore, home is more than a place; it is a feeling. It is a feeling of contentment and happiness that they share with the ones they love. Moreover, home is when one knows they are with people that can drive them insane in a second, and the same people can make them happy in a second as well. Home means that no matter what one is going through, no matter how challenging life gets, there will be someone looking out for them. One knows that a place is their home when they are comfortable enough to present a true description of themselves, because they know that they will receive definitive acceptance. It is a sanctuary for them where they can do anything they please and not be judged afterwards. It is where one can share the absurdity of their day without any remorse or repercussions. The reason why people say that a person only has one true home is because one will Get more content on HelpWriting.net

America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. It is something your soul is able to reach out and touch. Music also has the power to bring us as humans, together. It is one language spoken by all cultures, sexes, races, age and religions. Music also controls our emotions; it makes us happy, sad, angry, relaxed, etc. We also can express ourselves through music. It can affect our personality.. someone who listens to classical, like Mozart or Bach, all the time is going to be smarter and more intellectual than someone who listens to rap or metal, and someone who listens to more upbeat happier music, like Ska or Swing, is more likely to...show more content... "Just because you can't hear it doesn't mean it's not music" Music is respect. That's something I see happen way to much, people bashing on other people because of what they listen to. Instead of accepting that everyone isn't going to like what you like. Music is supposed to be something we all have in common, it's supposed to bring us together and create peace, not turn us against each other. It's something that we all do, including me at times. Not only in music but in everyday life. Music originates from all over the world since the beginning of time. Complex or simple, fast or slow, loud or soft. It's what you feel. It could be your method of escape or keeping you living. Music is love. Music is passion. Music is unity. Music is emotion. Music is belief. Music is beauty. Music is life. Music is perfection. Music is imperfection. Music is peace. "Through music we can live forever." "That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you." –The Shawshank Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As a person, a genius is one that stands out from a crowd and tackles the most difficult of problems in the simplest of ways. A genius is not only very clever, but instinct allows them to think outside the box. The term genius is often associated with names such as Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, JS Bach, William Blake, and Socrates. These are just a few of history's greatest thinkers who helped shape society with their innovative ideas. Each kind of genius is worlds apart. How a genius is molded from birth to until his death makes him distinct from others. Values, ideals, and beliefs vary from one mastermind to the next, but the genius in them is prominent. Albert Einstein once exclaimed "I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." The world's greatest geniuses are famous for a profound, open minded sense of curiosity. Curiosity is a personality trait often found in geniuses. This curiosity is usually the key element behind the motivation of a genius. "This proclivity towards curiosity or inquisitiveness may explain the breadth of interests and preference for complexity displayed by creative individuals" (Simonton 49). The focus of a true genius, whether in sciences, arts, or businesses, is finding new, creative and effective ways to do things. Curiosity sparks inspiration and creativity. A genius has the ability to do more than just memorize and recite existing information and ideas. They can discover, create, or invent new ideas within their particular area of interest. "The word creativity is closely linked to the word genius, since both words have the root meaning "to give birth". • 11. Feminism Definition Essay What is feminism? According to Merriam–Webster Dictionary the standard definition defines feminism as "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes." I believe the word feminism means a woman who is capable of doing the exact things a man can do. Both men and women are equal regardless the gender. There are many misconceptions when it comes to the word feminism such as, women having hatred towards men, women thinking they're above men, or only women can be feminist, and the gender stereotype. On the other hand, feminism is gender equality, acknowledging that any kind of violence is unacceptable regardless the gender, and realizing that women and men are not the same and recognizing that gender and sex are...show more content... Individuals need to learn and accept that women and men are capable of doing the same things. It should be acknowledged that women can do just as much as men can do. Society needs to put their "beliefs" aside and not view all women as a weak. People should be more open about this topic, instead of assuming. Women are often put down because of their gender. Although, women are able to achieve a role a man can accomplish. A third misconception society expects is, only women can be feminist. As the world changes day by day many people are becoming feminist. Not only females but, men too. Whenever someone labels themselves as a feminist it doesn't affect the movement, whether they're a female or male. Instead, it spreads the word of what feminism really means. For example, my father is a feminist and has no shame of letting the whole world know. My father believes women should have the freedom to make their own choices and women should be able to live their lives how they want to with their educations, careers, bodies, etc. He believes women deserve to have equal pay for the equal amount of work done. My father is always thinking of ways to spread the positivity of feminism. Overall, he supports feminism and believes in equality along with freedom. I strongly believe people should be informed on what the word feminism means. People who haven't been educated about the word feminism, are most likely to believe the typical stereotypes. That is not to say that challenges and disappointments aren't included in this. In this age in which we live, success is generally measured by the amount of money you earn, or the amount of wealth or power or number of promotions you've accumulated. I find that the older I grow, the more I view the people who are most happy and content with their lives as the most successful. Rich, poor or in between, they've tended to treat life as a journey, not a final destination. They took that trip when they were 25 even though they really couldn't afford it, they ordered the $55 bottle of wine with their filet because they knew that even though it was expensive it would enhance the meal so much more than water would. They took a chance on a start–up company, moved to Europe or Asia and experienced things that most people only dream about. If they managed to grow wealthy from the experience, so much the better. As long as moderation with most things is practiced, things won't spin out of control. Bottom line rules for a successful life: Always try new things. Listen twice as much as you talk. Travel as much as you can comfortably afford. Faith and family always come first – Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Definition Essay: What Is A Friend? What is a Friend? Who do you consider your friends? For me, a friend is someone who makes you laugh, they're nice, you can joke around with this person, and it's very easy to tell them anything because you trust them. If I talk to someone occasionally, and we're nice to each other but we never get into weird and funny conversations that later on leads to inside jokes, I wouldn't consider them a friend. All of the people I consider my friends are people who just bring joy to me. One common experience I have had with all my friends is laughing for a very long time non–stop until our stomachs hurt. For example, once I was skyping with two of my friends, Kim and Cortes. Cortes saw a post on Twitter that said "I hate it when teachers coffin skate...show more content... They'll look at your classes and see you were a top student for one of them, or look at one of the extracurricular activities you were a part of and see you contributed a lot and were very important and praised by the other members. For example, if you're into sports and you're the star athlete of your team, not only will you win awards from your school and be well–known by nearly every student, you might also get recruited by a college. What this means is the college will ask for you to join, since they want you on their team. If you're a part of a school organization that's also very beneficial. You gain skills that will be very important in the future. You'll build leadership skills and confidence. If you stick with this organization for a very long time during school, that's also a good thing colleges look for and it increases your chances of being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Semantics Essay Language is the primary source of communication for humans and is used to convey thoughts, feelings, intentions, and desires to others (Bonvillain 2008:1). Many rules are taken into account when forming a language. According to Bolton, language is arbitrary and is unrepresentative of the objects they represent (Bolton 1996: 63). The study of Semantics allows us to identify the meaning of words and phrases in their literal sense, and helps us to make meaning out of arbitrary sounds and phrases. It has been contributed to by both linguists and philosophers. Linguists used lexical decomposition to understand the features that comprise words and the categories in which the words fit. Philosophers dealt more with the meanings of sentences and...show more content... Another occurrence is synonymy, which is when more than one word has the same meaning. An example of this would be sick and ill. These two words both refer to feeling less than normal, but to some these two words may have different connotations. By that I mean that some may see ill as being worse than sick or vice versa. This can create a misunderstanding between speakers or readers. Another example according to Parker and Riley is big and large. Referring to your sister as big or large can make a big difference in how people view her; they could see her as being older than you or as bigger in size (2010:30). Synonymy can also have differences based on formal and informal settings such as the words woman and lady. This forces readers and writers of English to choose their words carefully to make sure that the right meaning is conveyed and understood. Yet another aspect is hyponyms. These are collections of words that go from general to specific terms. This allows us to use terms to our liking and not necessarily in the most effective way for the reader or listener to understand us. An example would be to say, "Please hand me a screwdriver." This sentence is too ambiguous to elicit a precise action because there are many different types of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Definition Essay. Defining Success Defining Success The definition of success is in the eye of the beholder. More than three–fourths of your life is spent working to become successful. People are told during childhood to work as hard as they can so they can grow up and make lots of money. But the word success can be taken in many different ways. Everyone has a different understanding of what success means to them. Generally, success means fulfilling the goals that you set for yourself. For some, success is measured by popularity and riches; for others success is determined by the amount of happiness that they feel. Money is a main worry for some people. It is a necessity for anyone who is trying to succeed in life. Many believe that the only way to success is to have a...show more content... Some feel that it is more important to enjoy work and get less money than it is to hate work and get paid more. There are many things in life that are overlooked. Everyone has family and it is important to value that. People who can value their families have achieved success in their own way. When two people have a child they feel successful simply because they have someone to love and treasure. The feeling of being able to love your own child and raise that child is success in life. Feeling healthy mentally and physically has a lot to do with whether or not you feel successful. If you can come home from the job you love, see your loving family, and then be able to sit down, relax and appreciate life then you are successful in your own ways. There are many different understandings of what success is. Some relate success to money, others relate success to happiness, but it all depends on the type of person. There is no right or wrong idea of success. It's simply how you want to live your life. Success can only be achieved if you are willing to believe you can be successful! People may want to give success an exact definition, but really success can only be what you want to believe it is. Anyone can achieve success it just takes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Dreams Definition Essay Dreams. We all have them. But why? What causes us to dream about the seemingly most random things? A dream, by definition, is a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep. Therefore, the quality of a person's sleep must somehow affect their dreaming patterns. There are 5 stages of sleep that a person passes through each night, supposing that the person actually goes to sleep. Stage 1 of sleep is very light and lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes. Brain activity lowers to around 50% or more. This slowly leads us into a deeper sleep and it is not uncommon to experience myoclonic jerks and hypnagogic imagery while thus stage progresses. During stage 2 of sleep our brain activity lowers even more and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Defining Intelligence Essay Intelligence is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as being the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge. When knowledge is spoken of, it is generally used in terms of education. The extent of education a person has achieved is then what most often determines how much knowledge one has accumulated. Nevertheless, with this definition of intelligence in mind, one might possibly consider the average person to be intelligent. After all, even a person who has never gone to school a day in their life is capable of acquiring knowledge and applying it to some area of their life. Acquiring and applying knowledge could be something as simple as being shown how to mop a floor and then conducting the job using the newly gained know–how. What...show more content... Children, for instance, all have different areas in which they excel. A child who excels in school and is listed on the honor roll each term would obviously be considered intelligent. However, a child who is very talented in music but obtains bad marks in school might not be deemed a smart child by the average person; nevertheless, this child would also be considered intelligent. Once a person has an idea of what intelligence is and what it means, a final thought one might consider is what influences are responsible for the different types of intellect. Two possible influences are genetics and the environment in which one lives, with genetics being the strongest influence (Santrock, 2009, pg. 302). Most researchers agree that a person's genetics and environment interact with one another to influence the outcome of that person's intelligence (Santrock, 2009, pg. 302). Genetic influences should be pretty obvious, so there should be no need to explain it; a person's environment on the other hand, can involve several factors. An environment can consist of elements such as a person's school, home, friendships, family relationships, and workplaces. All of these components factor in to influence a person's intelligence. In conclusion, I must say that intelligence can certainly be considered a broad word. It is a word that has varying definitions depending on the source from which the definition comes. The reason for this seems to be because people Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Independence Definition Essay Independence! What is the meaning of this word? Some people have different thoughts, ideas, or notions of the word but we always hear our parents telling us, from a young age, what it is and we grow up wanting and striving for that "independence". I remember when I was a teenager, I got into plenty of arguments with my mother about having friends over and the last thing she would always tell me after every argument, "Once you get your own place you can do whatever you want." Right after that I would mutter and mumble to myself, with anxiousness, ignorance, and sometimes anger, "I can't wait till I'm old enough to get my own place." Little did know, I would soon be ingesting the harsh reality of my own words. When I was nineteen the wait was over, I finally got that first step to independence, I had the financial means to rent my...show more content... There were a lot of things that I didn't have to worry about especially staying with my parents, such as electricity bills and cable bills because those were always paid. Since I was having such a tough time paying bills I decided to get a roommate and luckily, I thought at the time, my friend told me that he had a friend who has a child and needed a place to stay. First glance when I met my roommate I saw a beautiful, mature, well–mannered person; whose clothes looked neat, clean, and pressed. I thought she was the best candidate to be my roommate, but I was wrong. The first two weeks after her move–in were a living hell, she was filthy and a slob. She would leave dirty diapers everywhere, her room looked like a pig–pin, and the main bathroom smelled so bad. I would often think a bomb had gone off and wished that I had a gas mask when I would pass by her room and bathroom because I thought the toxic fumes could possibly kill Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. What is Love? Essay Love, Love, Love. We all think about it, dream about it, sing about it, and even lose sleep worrying about it, but why? Love is such a small word paired with a vital meaning. It's universal, easy to spell, difficult to define, but impossible to live without. When we don't have it, we search for it, when we find it, we don't know what to do with it, when we have it, we fear losing it. Love is the constant source of happiness and sorrow. I am young and I haven't a clue as to what love is, let alone what falling in love is. However, I have my ideas of what love is like. I have never witnessed the beauty of people falling in love, or the severity of those falling out of love, so what is love? Love in general could be frightening. Some...show more content... I think falling in love with someone happens when you least expect it to, when you're too busy focusing on other aspects of your life. This is where fate comes into play. That specific person was led to you for some unknown reason. Out of the blues, it's like your knight in shining amour that you have longed to be with finally found his/her way to you. There are people in this world that think they may never fall in love again. You fall at times, but you get back up. You will love again, and you will also trust again. You have to simply let things get themselves done, that's when you know it's meant to be, because destiny took its course, and while you were too busy doing something else, the love of your life came along. Love dates way back to when the world began. In reality, we really have no idea what love truly is. Raising questions like, is it even real? We watch love movies, read romance novels, but that's the sugar–coated, sweet and simple version of it. Meeting someone, fall in love, get married, have kids, spend the rest of your lives together. What about the suffering we have to endure when falling in love? Risking everything for that one person? And even when we feel we've reached the end of the road, this person has the power to leave us at any given moment. We put ourselves out there with the chance they can break us apart.
