human race for generations and to which no satisfactory answer exists. In the modern world, this
issue is examined theoretically, but rarely confronts individuals, with the exception of the most
destitute. However, in harsh environments and forbidding territories, this matter becomes very real
and pressing. Nature pays no attention to the arbitrary emotions of man, demanding only the
forfeiture of the sorrowfully short life granted to him. Many would argue that in order to delay the

In modern society, the stability of human life has been improved such that, in weighing decisions,
factors other than instinct are taken into account. In the harsh and unforgiving environment of Old
Koshkoosh's homeland, however, children are instructed to suppress their emotions and accept
survival instinct as the law of life. As identified by Old Koshkoosh's description of the cycle as
eternal, this belief is one imparted to him by his elders. Although he is an independent person, the
traditions of his tribe influence many of his decisions. Accordingly, he was taught to make
decisions based upon whether they would increase his chances of survival. This primordial
propensity towards instinctual courses of action serves as foundation for his tribe's way of life and,

Lawless Imagine a world in which laws were non–existent. Stop signs wouldn't exist, you would
never have to wear a seatbelt and you would never get pulled over for speeding. You wouldn't even

Laws are set in place for everyone in society to maintain balance and order. While it is infeasible to

How does one explain the sensation of that mystical? Almost never is it explained within tangible
description. Almost always it is explained within a range of feelings, and other than bodily
expressions; one cannot use their five primal to sense emotions. How does one explain the emotion

Myself for an example, I have never touched a welder in my life didn't know anything about

Literary Analysis Naturalism was a literary movement that took place from the 1880s until the
1940s. It used realism as a mechanism to suggest that social conditions, heredity, and environment
had a monumental impact in changing or defining human character. Naturalism exposes the dark
areas of life and how they affected people, such as sex, violence, disease, prejudice, abandonment,
disease, and even death. Naturalism, in short, is a need to return to the earth. (Williams, 571) A

Another characteristic of the story that allows it to be classified under the Naturalism genre is the
fact that the entire story focuses around abandonment. This was established within the very first
paragraph of the story, as shown in the excerpt "Sit–cum–to–ha was his daughter's daughter, but she
was too busy to waste a thought upon her broken grandfather, sitting alone there in the snow, forlorn
and helpless". At first, Old Koskoosh panicked at the thought of dying alone in the freezing cold,
but slowly and surely he started to realize his fate and why his family members made the decision to
pursue on and leave him behind.
An aspect of the story that really made it stand out and gave it an added touch of realism was how
calmly Old Koskoosh accepted his fate. Evidence of this acceptance can be seen in this excerpt:

Natural Law and the Preservation of Human Life In order to address the scenarios in this
assignment, one must define the when life begins. According to Thomas Aquinas God created the
universe and all plants, animals and life of all types under the doctrine of External Law. Based on
his vision, God instilled Natural Law in law to fulfill the parameters of External Law.
Self–preservation is not only a function of protecting one's self being, but also by ensuring the
species survives. This is accomplished through the second inclination of procreation. Aquinas'
teachings proclaim that God created the universe and by doing so, created all life. So logic must
dictate that life begins at conception and that the developing fetus has already been instilled with
Natural Law.
A young woman who is four months pregnant has recently discovered that she has tuberculosis. The
doctor informs her that she must take a drug that will cure her disease, but that the drug will also
have the effect of aborting the fetus. There is no other available drug that will cure her disease, and
if she does not take the drug immediately she will die. According to natural law, may the young
woman take the drug? Both the mother and the fetus are innocent human lives. Even though the fetus
may not be capable of understanding, it is still a life and is dependent upon the mother for life.
