Case Study Hurricane Irene
Hurricane Irene was one of the worst hurricanes to hit New York since Hurricane Agnes in 1972. This hurricane cost New York a total of $1.3 billion dollars as well as power outages of 1.1 million. Also it took the lives of ten people. Even though this hurricane bypassed New York City the inland section f New York wasn’t so fortunate. Hurricane Irene made landfall and caused severe flooding as well as damaged trees, homes, and dams were demolished. Hurricane Irene was looked at from every emergency management agency possible from local, state, tribal and federal to prepare for loss of life and damages. These agencies expected Hurricane Irene to cause massive destruction like Hurricane Sandy did in New York City, but never the less this hurricane caused a lot of damage in revenue, lives, and property wise. This case study is important for me because it will show what the state and these agencies did for planning, prevention, mitigation, and recovery process for New York.

A) a subset of the total of individuals or objects which
information is desired.
B) a subset of a sample of individuals or objects which
information is desired.
C) an entire collection of individuals or objects which
information is desired.
D) a partial collection of individuals or objects which

In some studies, attention focuses on a single variable. Other
studies will focus on two variables. When a study focuses on
two characteristics, such as age and weight, the data set will
consist of pairs of numbers, such as (68, 192). The age is 68 and
the weight is 192. When a study focuses on two characteristics
it is called a:
A) bivariate data set
B) univariate data set
C) trivariate data set
D) quadvariate data set
10.
The primary purpose of linear correlation is to measure the
strength of a linear relationship between two variables. Scatter
diagrams measure that relationship. A scatter diagram can
reflect:
A) no correlation
B) positive correlation
C) negative correlation
D) All of the above
11.
5. The coefficient of linear correlation, r, is the numerical measure
of the strength of the linear relationship between two variables.

Students lie, cheat, steal, but think they are good “The
Josephson Institute, a Los Angeles-based ethics institute,
surveyed 29,760 students at 100 randomly selected high schools
nationwide, both public and private. All students in the selected
schools were given the survey in class; their anonymity was
assured...The survey found that 35 percent of boys and 26
8. percent of girls—30 percent overall—acknowledged stealing
from a store within the past year...Cheating in school is rampant
and getting worse. Sixty-four percent of students cheated on a
test in the past year and 38 percent did so two or more times, up

A masters thesis by M. Purser at the University of Washington
in 1988 looked at soil densities in a conifer forest, before and
after clearcut logging in the area. These histograms show 32
pre-logging densities and 38 post-logging densities, recorded in
grams per cubic centimeter. Unlike most before-and-after
designs, this was a two-sample study: the same sample of soil
could not be assessed twice. First compare the histogram’s
centers: when were the densities higher on average?
A) before logging
B) after logging
C) neither

plot.
