2. Tvidi.Ru is a joint project of RBC Media Holding
and Tweegee (Israel). It is the largest Russian
Internet portal for kids and teens 6-16 years with
online games, virtual worlds, forums, comics,
news, chat rooms, social network, online cinema,
photo storage services, video and audio files. The
monthly audience is more than 2.2 million users.

3. About this study
The study has been conducted in june 2013, by online poll on the
highly popular Russian children social network Tvidi.ru
1477 people between 7 and 15 year old participated in the poll.
The study was developed as a part of Digital Parenting Russia
initiative.

4. Introduction
12 millions kids between 7 and 15 years old currently live in
Russia*, and with about 90% internet penetration among this age
group and virtually no piracy restrictions in the country, ebook
reading rapidly delve into children life.
With no public library systems offering digital media loans,
Internet constitute the main access channel to the media that
otherwise young people need to pay out of the pocket.
The significant range of dedicated reading devices retail cost is
well under $100, so majority of young ebook readers use them as
primary reading platform.

5. Summary
Half of the Russian kids read ebooks.
Most of the readers downloaded books for free and read on
dedicated e-reading devices.
Less then 1 of 5 ebook readers ever bought the ebook.
One third of ebook readers read on tablets and desktop computers.
Despite of the small screen, smartphones are widely used for reading,
so till the 8 grade the share of kids who read on smartphones rich the
share of readers on desktops and tablets.

6. Most of the young ebook readers rely on the opinion of other readers
from Internet.
Almost 2 in a 5 readers had to cancel their reading time, because of
family members occupied the reading device.
76% of students prepare their homework using ebooks, and only 2 in
5 students still use print.
No matter how they read - one third of children can not have their
reading time because of lack of quite environment.

10. Elementary kids are the most oppressed readers - more than half of
them admit that they face device competion with parents and
siblings.
Growing up means to obtain the own device for reading and in the
high school only 1 in a 5 children still need to share the device with
other family members.
