  2. 2. Introduction to Paper • Media today has evolved into a multi-faceted force that has become an integral part of our life, influencing almost everything we do. Media is no longer confined to one way communication. Using available technology and social media we can now communicate and interact with one another anywhere on earth instantly. Today information virtually has no barriers thanks to this media explosion Role of Media in Promoting Tourism
  3. 3. • Mr. Francesco Frangialli , the former UNWTO Secretary-General once expressed the view that modern day tourism is highly dependent on media reporting. He said so because today, a vast majority of travel decisions are made by people who have never seen their intended destination first hand for themselves. Role of Media in Promoting Tourism
  4. 4. • Tourists usually decide on the destination first, based on what they have heard or seen from media. • Media include every broadcasting medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, and internet. • The growing popularity of the internet and social sites such as Face book and Twitter, social media is now an important channel that allows messages to be spread to the public Role of Media in Promoting Tourism
  5. 5. A Bird view on Heritage Monuments of Kalaburagi • Kalaburagi “a land of Red Gram”, “a land of tombs”, “a land of Religious Harmony” has ruled by many dynasties like Mughal, Yadavas of Devagiri, Rastrakutas, Bahamanis, Kalachuries, and Vijaynagar etc. It is home for rich heritage and religious sites like followings: • Bahamani Fort,Jumma Maszid,Khwaza Bande Nawaz Dargah, Shri Sharana Basaveshwar Temple,Lord Dattatraya temple and Buddha Vihara. 6. 6. Bahamani Fort Gulbarga Fort was built by Raja Gulchand of the Warangal Kakatiyas and was expanded and improved to its grandest state by the Bahmani Sultans in the 14th century. The structure is one of the earliest examples of the cross between the Indian and the Persian architectural styles and was built using lime mortar and granite. This fort has a two round fortification; outer wall of the fort has lesser height. The premises of the fort encompass numerous ancient buildings, mosques, temples and stables. This fort also has many canons.
  7. 7. Jumma Maszid This magnificent monument has constructed in 1367 by Persian architects in the rule of Bahamani dynasty. It occupies an area of 38,016 sq meters and 5000 peoples can pray at a time. The important part of this maszid is 250 arches and the roof of the masjid which has around 68 domes and looks like a pot, is one of the main attractions of the masjid.
  8. 8. Khwaza Bande Nawaz Dargah • Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah is considered as a tomb of Khwaja Syed Mohammad Gesu Daraz, a Sufi saint. It is constructed in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. The domes, arches and walls draw inspiration from the Bahmani, Turkish and Iranian architecture. There is a library in the dargah, that has a collection of around 10,000 books in different languages including Persian, Urdu and Arabic. The annual festival of Urs is celebrated at this dargah.
  9. 9. Shri Sharanbasaveshwar Temple This temple is believed to be devoted to the Hindu philosopher and religious teacher, Shri Sharana Basaveshwara. He was a Lingayat saint and was known for Dasoha and Kayaka philosophy of ‘giving is earning’.The temple has the samadhi of Sharana Basaveshwara, which is known as Garbha Gudi. Dating back to the 12th century, the carvings of elephants, flowers, parrots, creepers and Garuda can be seen in the temple.
  10. 10. Cont…. • The temple is also known for its Sabhamandapa, which consists of around 36 arches and numerous pillars. The temple is visited by many travellers on the occasion of the Jatra. Role of Media in Promoting Tourism

Sangam, also known as the Sangam Kshetra, is a prominent tourist attraction near the confluence of two rivers, Bhima and Amarja.
