 Why Reading is Important? 
 Strategies For Readings?
 It is a Decoding Process 
 Aim is to comprehend the meaning 
 Through reading we can gain a lot 
 Reading builds our vocabulary which leads to 
comprehend the meaning easily
Internal factor: 
Language proficiency 
Motivation level 
Accumulative reading ability 
External factor : 
Quality of reading environment 
Textual characteristics, readability of 
text.
 As a young learners we should read a lot for 
which we should select appropriate text . 
 During reading the meaning doesn’t go from 
the page to the reader, instead it is a 
complex negotiation between the text and 
the reader. 
 Reading leads to good writing 
 Reading builds our confidence, language 
proficiency, and content information.
 Narrow down your topic for better and 
brighter reading 
We should have reading readiness 
Three reading strategies 
1. Before Reading 
2. During Reading 
3. After Reading
 What to read? 
 Try to guess what the author try to say by 
giving a glance. Check the topic, Index, 
Blurb, surveying picture, etcetera. 
 Find is it relevant to your topic? 
 Skimming and scanning are the key strategy 
in pre reading.
1. Ask your tutor for reading list 
2. Use your textbook, you may find a 
recommended list 
3. Look up the topic in Encyclopedia 
4. Web resource 
5. Journal articles 
 This brings answer for the question that is it 
needed to read
 Find the focus of your reading 
 Note taking is key strategy in reading, this 
makes the reader active 
 This is influenced by before reading 
 Questioning, Predicting and visualizing are 
the thing we have to do to obtain better 
result 
 Contextualize 
 Use your voice while reading difficult words, 
for recurrent usage of the term 
 No fast or slow reading only end result count
 After completed reading this is the important 
stage, we have to think about the text and 
its implication. 
 Try to have note when to begin your reading 
next, because regular reading will be 
effective.

 Guide 
 Monitor 
 Help and motivate 
 Can divide students in to smaller groups

of them and kindle desire 
All this points will ultimately leads to better 
results in young learners reading.

Teaching reading strategies for young learners

  • 3.  It is a Decoding Process  Aim is to comprehend the meaning  Through reading we can gain a lot  Reading builds our vocabulary which leads to comprehend the meaning easily
  • 4. Internal factor: Language proficiency Motivation level Accumulative reading ability External factor : Quality of reading environment Textual characteristics, readability of text.
  • 5.  As a young learners we should read a lot for which we should select appropriate text .  During reading the meaning doesn’t go from the page to the reader, instead it is a complex negotiation between the text and the reader.  Reading leads to good writing  Reading builds our confidence, language proficiency, and content information.
  • 6.  Narrow down your topic for better and brighter reading We should have reading readiness Three reading strategies 1. Before Reading 2. During Reading 3. After Reading
  • 7.  What to read?  Try to guess what the author try to say by giving a glance. Check the topic, Index, Blurb, surveying picture, etcetera.  Find is it relevant to your topic?  Skimming and scanning are the key strategy in pre reading.
  • 8. 1. Ask your tutor for reading list 2. Use your textbook, you may find a recommended list 3. Look up the topic in Encyclopedia 4. Web resource 5. Journal articles  This brings answer for the question that is it needed to read
  • 9.  Find the focus of your reading  Note taking is key strategy in reading, this makes the reader active  This is influenced by before reading  Questioning, Predicting and visualizing are the thing we have to do to obtain better result  Contextualize  Use your voice while reading difficult words, for recurrent usage of the term  No fast or slow reading only end result count
  • 10.  After completed reading this is the important stage, we have to think about the text and its implication.  Try to have note when to begin your reading next, because regular reading will be effective.

  • 12.  Guide  Monitor  Help and motivate  Can divide students in to smaller groups  provide feed back to students, try to be part of them and kindle desire All this points will ultimately leads to better results in young learners reading.
