Political parties play very crucial role in the democratic system where the general public is
expected to have great say in the policy making of country. These parties presents their
candidates before the general public and get them elected to execute the law and programs. There
is two party system in the USA Republican and democratic are two parties.It has not been
mentioned in the constitution that there should be only two parties in the country. But it
automatically have developed into the two party system.
These politcal parties first of all make it realise to general public that all policies and laws are
made according to their preferences. Following are functions of political parties:
1. Representing the group preference: These parties are at variance with repect to the policy and
laws. Hence these parties represents to the specific group withing the contitutional boundries.
2. Presenting as alternatives: These parties present themselves before the public as alternatives
3. Making the policies: After being elected by the public these parties make the laws and
policies.
4. Saving from the dictatorship: If one party has majority then other party keep strict watch on
the activities on incombent govt if it is working according to the constitution or not..
