Irregular verbs are the ones you have to study
  from the list of irregular verbs. The past
  form is on the second column.

 INFINITIVE      PAST        PAST PARTICIPLE

 Be              was/were    been
 Become          became      become
 Begin           began       begun
 Bring           brought     brought
To write the affirmative form you only have to
 write the subject (I, You… Mary…) and then
 the verb in the past using the form from the
 second column.

      Ex. I wrote a letter yesterday
          Laura bought some bread
Affirmative
   I was
 You were
  He was
  She was
   It was

  We were
 You were
 They were
Fill in the gaps using the correct form of the verb
to be in the past tense (was / were)

 1. Laura _______________ my friend.

 2. We _______________ in the kitchen
    an hour ago

 3. You _______________ sad yesterday

 4. I ___________ looking for my pencil

 5. Susan and Peter ___________ dancing
Affirmative
   I wrote
   You read
  He bought
 She caught
    It ran

   We took
You understood
  They saw
Write the past tense of the following
verbs

* Be ________________      * Break _________________

* Buy ________________     * Understand _____________

* Read _______________     * See ___________________

* Cut _________________    * Get ___________________

* Write ________________   * Leave _________________

* Begin ________________   * Do ____________________

* Go __________________    * Drink __________________
 Regular verbs are not on the list. These verbs
    follow certain rules to form the past.
 They add “ed” to the verb to form the past.

    ex. Listen (present) – listened (past)
        look (present) – looked (past)
 These are the rules you have to take into
  account:
1. If the verbs ends in “-y” and has a vowel
  before it, you have to change the “-y” by “-
  i” and then add “ed”
       ex. Study - studied
           try – tried
2. If the verb ends in “-y” but before it has a
  vowel, you add “ed” without changing
  anything
       ex. Play - played
 If the verb ends in “-e” you only add “-d”

         ex. Move - moved

 Sometimes you have to double the last letter
(double the consonant when you have a consonant
after a short stressed vowel at the end of the
word)
       ex. Stop – stopped
           plan - planned
Affirmative
  I looked
You studied
  He cried
She stopped
  It moved

 We clapped
You listened
They watched
Fill in the gaps using the verb in brackets in
the past tense (some of them are regular and
others irregular)

1. Mary ____________ (come) to my house
2. You _____________ (listen) to the radio
   this morning
3. The cat ___________ (drink) milk
4. The baby __________ (clap) his hands
5. Peter _____________ (study) maths
6. I ___________ (go) to the cinema
7. The dog ____________ (break) its leg
8. We ___________ (dance) all night long
