3. Dear Friends
I have been searching out Christmas presents to give and the
bright and sparkly things in the shop bring all kinds of thoughts to
my head. The recession takes its toll and the decision to give and
what to give can cause concern. And yet there is no doubt that if
we keep in mind the reason for the season then our hearts are
warmed by the thought of giving something to our loved ones.
There's an old saying which says:
The secret of living is not in the keeping but in the giving
For only what we give away,
enriches us from day to day,
and only when we learn to love
will man find peace with God above
The amazing events at Bethlehem on that first Christmas continue
to remind us of the truths which are important for our lives and well
being. God loves the world enough to give but do we love enough
to give?
There is a danger of restricting giving to family and friends and to
be caught up in materialism and the commercialism of Christmas
that ultimately leads to self-centredness. Its so easy to forget those
who will be cold, homeless, hungry, refugees or living in war torn
places this Christmastide.
We are fortunate in this country, that perhaps we should thank God
for his generosity to us by giving to others in need through aid
organisations or to his church so that we can continue to
experience the care the church gives in all the changing scenes of
life.
George and I wish you every blessing for Christmas and the New
Year.

8. Allotment Site Update
South Marston Parish Council together with Stratton St Margaret
Parish are intending to work together to expand the South Marston
Parish Council allotment site on Highworth Road. The plot of land,
formally the home of the gliding club, is leased from Honda and
approximately 40% has remained unused for the past 25 years.
Some 20 or more 10x10 plots could be feasilbe if the land can be
cleared. Sample excavations on the site have shown good quality
top soil. However, the area is covered in thick bramble that inhibits
a detailed survey.
This may involve excavation of founfations from the ex-gliding club.
Excavation may uncover a water connection that could be
reconnected, though at cost. This has potential for the future but
reconnection would need deepere investigation as to costs.
Strattan St Margaret Parish Council has their own ground work
equipment and work force. All work to be funded by, and carried
out by Strattan St Margaret Parish Councils man power and
equipment, at no cost to South Marston Parish Council.
A date for clearance work has been suggested for the 10th
December 2012 and is expeccted to last 2 days.
Letters will be sent to all allotment tenants and householders
bordering the site informing them about the clearance work and the
expanded site.
Parish Councillor Vacancy
South Marston Parish Council currently has a vacancy on the Parish
Council.
If you would like to know more about becoming a Parish Councillor and
would be interested in joining the team, please contact the Parish Clerk
on 01793 820529 or email: clerksmpc@aol.com.
Please note that Parish Council meetings are held the third Tuesday of
the month at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.

9. HGV's Driving Through the Village
The Parish Council are aware that there are HGV's ignoring
weight limit signs, driving through the village. We are trying to
collect evidence to pass on to Wiltshire Police who may be
able to find an appropriate solution to the problem. Please
don't assume other people are reporting the problem. We need you to
contact us if you have any information that may be of use. Please pass
this on to the Parish Clerk either via email(clerksmpc@aol.com) or by
telephoning 01793820529. Thank you
