King Eurystheus commanded Hercules to capture a white bull in Crete that was destroying crops and killing people. When Hercules arrived, he refused help from King Minos's army and faced the bull alone. Hercules was able to subdue the powerful bull by riding on its back, tying its legs, and transporting it onto his ship. He then brought the bull to King Eurystheus as requested, though the king, fearing Poseidon's wrath, released it near Athens where it continued to terrorize the area until Theseus ultimately killed it.
