3. St. Patrick's University Hospital
St Patrick's University Hospital is Ireland’s
largest, independent, not-for-profit mental health
service.
They look after people with a range of mental
health difficulties including:
• addiction and dual diagnosis
• depression
• bipolar disorder
• eating disorders
• mood & anxiety disorders

4. Advocacy
• St Patrick's campaign for the protection of
the rights and integrity of those suffering
from mental illness through this they have
become active partner in the See Change
national anti-stigma campaign run by the
mental health support agency Shine.
• St. Patrick's are currently running their own
campaign called Walk In My Shoes to help
de-stigmatise people with mental health
difficulties.

5. Our Week in St. Patrick's
Over the course of the week we:
• Visited the wards.
• Learned practical first aid skills.
• Learned how to look after our own mental
health.
• Discovered career prospects in mental
health.
• Gained an insight into the day to day
workings of the hospital.

6. Young People and Mental Health
• 1 in 4 people in Ireland will experience a
mental health difficulty this year.
• 75% of all mental health difficulties begin
before the age of 24.
• Suicide is the leading cause of death among
18-25 males in Ireland
• Between 45% and 65% of people who die
by suicide Have suffered fro a treatable
mental illness.

7. Willow Grove
• Willow Grove Adolescent Unit is a 14 bedded
inpatient facility for young people aged between
13 -17 years who are experiencing mental health
difficulties.
• The aim of the team at Willow Grove is to help
young people manage their thoughts, feelings or
behaviours so that they can cope better with
everyday difficulties.
