Constructivism How we learn… Paul Dennison
“Knowledge is experience, everything else is just information.” We are surrounded by information artefacts – books, web-pages, hand-outs –  but experience??? You can’t buy it, can’t swap it, can’t steal it, can’t down-load it, can’t plagiarise it. Experience belongs to YOU. Experience is PERSONAL.    Learning is PERSONAL.
Learning IS personal. ,[object Object]
  You build your own.
  It’s a creative process.
  You change the inside of your head.BTW - there are no shortcuts.

  • 18. Constructivism – Learning is personal Each of us constructs – makes sense of – our own version of reality – our personal knowledge. Constructivism is the dominant “ism” in Education today It’s a creative process. It’s active – it isn’t passive.
  • 19. Constructivism – Learning is personal Each of us constructs – makes sense of – our own version of reality – our personal knowledge. This explains why Educators (us!) want to achieve more active learning and self-directed learning with our students. It explains why harnessing students’ creativity is so effective in HE. It also explains why assessment is important, as a corrective check on wrong (constructed) learning.
