The document compares traditional and modern methods for teak plantation management from an expert forester's perspective. Traditionally, teak plantations relied on seed collection and treatment, selection of planting sites based on experience, and minimal post-planting care. Modern methods now use specialized seed and nursery centers to produce higher quality clonal seedlings suited for specific sites, source seeds and stalks from tested high-performing clones, and import seedlings from other states, with promising early results. However, the long-term field results of the modern approaches in the local climatic and site conditions are still to be observed.
