1. TRAINING ON LEADERSHIP

Date 16-17 February 2017
2. A training on Leadership was held at
Directorate of Training: Union Territories
Civil Services, Delhi on 16th – 17th
February 2017.Officials from different
departments took the training some being
Delhi Police, ISM,Nursing staff, project
coordinator from NRHM. There were
around doctors from the Homoeopathic
wing (AYUSH) who participated in the
workshop.
4. LEADERSHIP AND MOTIVATION TRAINING
MODULE
Day 1
Consisted of two sessions
Ms Neelakshi Tanima talked on what is
leadership and about the challenges of
leadership during session I and session II
Ms Khushali Gandhi threw light on what
makes an effective leader and about
leadership in an organizational setting in later
part of the day.
5. DAY 2
Mr .Naresh Baluni very interestingly talked
on Leadership scope and need in
governmental context.
Later part of the day consisted of two
sessions taken by Mr. Rukhsar Ahmad who
gave insight into practical task of leadership
and action planning.
6. FEW ASPECTS OF LEADERSHIP
Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill
encompassing the ability of an individual or organization to “
lead” or guide other individuals, teams or entire organization.
The process of encouraging and making others to work
enthusiastically towards an objective is called leadership.
Leadership refers to the ability to influence others that change the
behavior of others through non-coercive means
It is a group phenomenon wherein the communication skill and
vision of the leader plays as an important tool
7. IMPORTANCE OF LEADERSHIP
It can be explained by an old age saying---A group
without a leader is like a herd without a keeper or an army
without a general. Leadership helps to maximize
efficiency and to achieve organizational goals. Following
points justify need of a leadership

9. TYPES OF LEADERSHIP
Different types of leadership styles exist
in work environment . Advantages and
disadvantages exist within each
leadership style. The culture and goals
of an organization determine which
leadership style fits the firm best.
10. TYPES OF LEADERSHIP
Management leadership is about finding ways
to meet the needs of your employees and your
organization.
There is no single correct management
leadership style– the best leadership styles
the one that meets the challenges you are
facing an needs of the people you are leading.
Effective leaders are often flexible and are
able to change the style of leadership to suit
changing circumstances.

(TELLS)
Allows managers to make decisions alone
without input of others
Strengths—
Quick decisions
Efficient for highly routine work
Weakness—
One way communication
Does not encourage contribution from
subordinates
14. PERSUASIVE LEADERSHIP STYLE
(SELLS)
Explains things to subordinates , takes
them into confidence.
Strengths—
Staff more willing to work
All have better idea of what to do
Weakness—
May be felt as “tell style” laced up with pretended
concern
Decision already taken by the leader, subordinates
will not necessarily be consulted
15. PARTICIPATIVE LEADERSHIP STYLE
(CONSULTS)
Leader takes view and feeling of but retains
the right to make the final decision
Strengths—
Employee can contribute knowledge and
experience to help in solving problem .

It takes longer for decisions
Subordinates might have limited view point
16. DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP STYLE
(JOINS)
Leader and followers make decision together
on basis of consensus, compromises or
agreement
Strengths—
Provides high commitment level to the decision reached.
Takes advantage of knowledge of the group.
Weakness—
It takes longer for decisions
Authority of the manager may be undermined
Clear cut decision difficult
