2. Porcelain Veneers (Part 1)
§ Elliot Yamin, former American Idol contestant and now bonafide pop
star, took a lot of flack for his teeth before, during and after the hit TV
show – and responded with great veneers that took his smile from the Dlist straight to the red carpet! And Disney sensation and pop star Miley
Cyrus helped bridge the gaps in her teeth by reportedly having veneers
put on.
§ Other stars that have gotten veneers and have been in the media for it
include Hillary Duff, rapper 50 Cent, singer Keyshia Cole, Lil Kim,
Christina Aguilera and Chris Rock. Although not the most cost effective
for those on a budget, veneers are THE procedure that can give you that
Hollywood A-List Smile with guaranteed red carpet results.
3. Porcelain Veneers (Part 1)
§ What do they do? Porcelain veneers are excellent for restoring the
appearance of teeth that have been damaged due to injury or that are
discolored, chipped or misaligned. The color, shape, length and size of
your teeth can be completely altered with high-quality porcelain veneers.
Any dentist who is an expert in cosmetic dentistry can make you look
younger and more attractive with porcelain veneers.
§ Porcelain veneers replace the enamel of your teeth by bonding to the
front of each tooth. I compare them to “fake fingernails,” but for the
teeth. Like natural enamel, these thin, glass-like veneers are translucent
and light-absorbing, which creates a natural and luminescent appearance.
With porcelain veneers, you can have the beautiful, natural-looking smile
you’ve always wanted.
§ How does the procedure work?
4. Porcelain Veneers (Part 1)
§
During your first office visit, your dentist will walk you through the various stages of
your porcelain veneers procedure, allowing you to take an active role in designing your
new smile. Your dentist may need to administer anesthesia depending on how much
tooth structure has to be removed to achieve the desired results. Next, your teeth will
be buffed and reshaped as needed. Generally only about half a millimeter of enamel
will be removed.
§
A putty mold of your teeth will then be made in preparation for the laboratory
ceramist to design and make your new porcelain teeth for bonding during your second
office visit. The ceramist has to carefully hand sculpt each and every tooth to your
desired color and shape that was selected during the smile design phase. Your dentist
will complete your first visit by making temporary veneers to replace the enamel that
was removed. These temporary veneers are made of acrylic and, if planned properly,
can be made from the wax-up model of your new smile that was made during the
smile design process to give you a sneak preview of your new smile.
5. Porcelain Veneers (Part 1)
§ During your second visit, your dentist will administer anesthesia to
prepare you for the removal of your temporary veneers. Next, your
new porcelain veneers will be fitted to your teeth with temporary
glue for viewing your new smile.
§ You should look at your new smile from different angles, different
sized mirrors, and under different lighting. In my office, I have my
patients look first in a hand held mirror in the chair, then in a
vanity mirror on the wall of the bathroom, and finally a full length
mirror. The goal is to see the veneers under different scenarios to
make sure that you like them, before they are permanently bonded
to your teeth.
6. Porcelain Veneers (Part 1)
§ If there is something that you don’t like about the veneers, you can
request that the veneers be sent back to be remade to your
specification at no additional cost. However, once they are bonded
with permanent glue, the veneers are yours to keep and any
changes that are requested may cost you handsomely. Upon your
approval, your new porcelain veneers will be bonded permanently
and polished to give you a beautiful, natural-looking smile.
