Usain Bolt is a world-class sprinter who holds numerous world records in track events from 100m to 400m. Despite early setbacks like injuries and a car accident that disrupted his training, Bolt went on to win gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, setting new world records in the 100m and 200m. Known for his relaxed attitude and natural athleticism, Bolt has broken record after record since 2001 and proved that with hard work and perseverance in overcoming injuries, one can achieve their full potential.

3. Olympian Usain Bolt has
taken the world by
storm with his natural
athletic ability and often
nonchalant attitude.
Since 2001 he has
broken record after
record in races varying
from 100m to 400m.
Bolt’s athleticism knows
no bound.
In 2004 under the guidance
of Usain Bolt’s new coach –
Fitz Coleman – Bolt began
competing as a professional.
Unfortunately, in 2005 during
the final of the World
Championships in Helsinki, he
finished last in the race as a
result of a hamstring injury.
Motivational Lessons:
4. In November of the
same year Bolt
faced another set-
back after he was
involved in a car
accident.
Thankfully, he only
suffered from
minor face
lacerations.
However, Bolt’s
training schedule
was still disrupted
by the accident.
In 2008 at the Beijing Olympic
Games Usain Bolt won both the
100m races as well as the 200m
races – both in record time. That
year, together with his Jamaican
team mates Bolt won a gold medal
in the 4 x 100m relay.
5. In 2012 Usain Bolt broke another Olympic
record when he finished his 100m race with a
time of 9.63 seconds. This was during the
London Olympics.
Both Bolt’s career and personal life were not
all a quick sprint – Bolt found himself with
hamstring injuries a number of times – always
as he was about to shine as an athlete.
Despite recurring injuries, Bolt maintained his
career and used the injuries as a booster to
continue competing; instead of an excuse to
quit.
6. Usain Bolt started an organisation called the Usain Bolt foundation which is
focused on children – specifically through educational and cultural development.
Bolt also battled to take his athletics seriously. In 2001 at the CARIFTA Trials he hid in the
back of a van instead of preparing for a 200m event. Bolt was arrested for this incident
causing an international outcry. In 2005 with the guidance of Glen Mills, Bolt started taking
athletics more professionally. Mills pushed Bolt to be more serious in the sport when he
realised the great potential Bolt held.
7. Usain Bolt is proof that if you don’t
knuckle down and act professionally
you will not reach your full potential.
Although he was great pre-2005, his
career was massively boosted by his
coach, Glen Mills. Mills mainly
focused on forcing Bolt to take
athletics seriously; thereafter living
out his full potential.
Although Bolt enjoys athletics, he
still dreams of playing cricket in the
Big Bash League once he retires. He
also owns a restaurant called Tracks
and Records.
8. “For me, I'm focused on
what I want to do. I
know what I need to do
to be a champion, so I'm
working on it.”
“Manners is the key
thing. Say, for instance,
when you're growing
up, you're walking down
the street, you've got to
tell everybody good
morning. Everybody.
You can't pass one
person.”
“I work hard, and I do
good, and I'm going to
enjoy myself. I'm not
going to let you restrict
me.”
“I know what I
can do so it
doesn't bother
me what other
people think or
their opinion on
the situation.”
“I don't think
limits.”
“I don't like
losing
anyways.”
Words of Wisdom:
9. “I've worked
hard over the
years, I've
been injured
and I've
worked hard
through it, and
I've made it.”
