2. Today Today’s class will be an introduction to the rest of this class. Today we will think about three major questions: 1. Who am I? 2. What will we be studying? 3. Why is this kind of study necessary?

5. 2. What? Reading is more than simply knowing words and their meaning. To properly understand a document one must understand things such as Genre, Historical Background, Parables, Irony, Sarcasm, etc.

6. 3. Why? Which verses of the Bible should be followed strictly today and which are there to teach us principles? To properly understand this one needs some sort of criteria to determine the difference between a universal command and a cultural command.

7. Examples of Why “God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” ” (Genesis 1:28, NASB95)
