Trigger Points Almost no matter what happens, you can count on trigger points to make it worse. They routinely form in response to injuries, or really any other kind of pain and dysfunction. As if that weren’t bad enough, in many cases they actually begin to overshadow the original problem. Trigger points make injuries worse!
Trigger Points
Subluxations are joint receptor misalignments that create neurological blockages that inhibit normal energy flow, and may lead to degeneration (osteoarthritis).
Joint receptors help us maintain our posture, movement, normal muscle tone, volume and strength. They enable the body to react to its environment. For example, when a spinal joint and its surrounding tissues are injured in an accident or from prolonged sitting, inflammation, muscle spasms, and pain, followed by healing ensues. When our nervous system is functioning at 100%, this happens automatically via the nervous system, which control the circulatory system, the glandular system and the immune system. Subluxations inhibit normal bodily functioning. SUBLUXATIONS
Assessment of Subluxations An easy method of determining subluxations from a chiropractic neurologist standpoint would be to simply assess posture. A tilted head, high shoulder, high hip or an internally rotated knee or ankle joint may indicate the nervous systems response to subluxations.
Adjustments An adjustment is a method of resetting joint movement receptors, which in turn affect internal joint capsule tension, segmental tone, volume and pain. As joint movement receptor activity increase, nocioceptive (painful) input decrease. Thus, pain suppression, is achieved through a chiropractic adjustment and movement therapy (stretch). Goals of care are for the purpose of reducing irritability of joints and its related myofascial tissues.
Results of Subluxations Poor ergonomic posture and mechanics, coupled with lack of exercise, stretching and poor nutritional habits, contribute to structural misalignments (subluxation). This will lead to abnormal joint motion and muscle rigidity, organ and glandular dysfunction, (because of sympathetic stimulation). In addition, this will lead to joint receptor firing (primarily slow pain fibers). Further, this cascade will lead to spinal cartilage degeneration within 1 day and initial stages of disc dehydration within 1 week . Ultimately inflammation will ensue; thus pain. The body responds to its external environment, always attempting to reach balance. Unfortunately, osteoarthritis is the body’s response to such chronic mechanical dysfunction.
Dysfunctional Information 90% of dysfunctional information from joint receptors is sent to the autonomic organs (cardiovascular system, respiratory system, digestive system, endocrine system, urinary system and the immune system). Mast cells line the tracts of these systems. These cells are under control of the nervous and immune system, which lead to further inflammatory and autoimmune dysfunction (asthma, bronchitis, IBS, fibromyalgia, heart dis-ease, prostate cancer, diabetes, etc..). Only 10% of receptor impulses reach the portion of the brain for pain perception and localization. These aforementioned pathways demonstrate coordination of various systems for the purpose of human survival (balance). Postural balance is controlled much by the small but strong anti-gravity spinal muscles. These postural muscles are highly in tune with the cerebellum (coordination brain center), which also rely on the visual (eyes) and vestibular (inner ear balance) systems for information. Thus, we may understand the linkage between the musculoskeletal system, organs, motion and optimal health.

Alternative to Medicine In order to handle burgeoning numbers of aging baby boomers, which will seek service for management of chronic diseases, as well as the escalating number of younger adults with metabolic syndrome obesity and type II diabetes, a new model which incorporates `alternatives therapies is needed.` `…The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease…` Sir William Osler, 1849-1919. `…People do not get sick from diseases, but rather diseases reflect a disruption in the dynamic balance between themselves and their environment…` Sidney M.
