VASTI
13. Continution…..
•Drug crosses rectal mucosa.
•In left lateral position, because of anatomical slope, the drug
passes easily into rectum.
•From the lower rectal mucosa drug drains into middle &
inferior haemorrhoidal vein and gets absorbed into Systemic
circulation
•from Upper rectal mucosa drug reaches Superior haemorrhoidal
vein, then gets absorbed into Portal circulation.
•Hypo-osmotic, so gets absorbed into the circulation
•Improves local circulation to sacrum, pelvis, uterus etc
•The ENS and CNS communicate with each other through
neurotransmitters,
16. •Even though it is said that it has no restrictions,
extremes are always contraindicated.
•It has a very little role to play in conditions where
structural changes take place for example in
uterine fibroids etc
•Patients with fissure, fistula, constipation and
local anal pathology should not be given matra
vasti.
17. Most of the common gynaecological
conditions , can be managed by simple, cost
effective matra vasti.
But, indepth study on the concept of vasti and
the way it affects the hormones when various
drugs are used is a topic of interest for further
study and future research.
