Surpassing past 9 years record this year, 45040 law aspirants have applied for the CLAT
2016, from across 20 cities in the country.
It seems that the interest in pursuing law is gaining momentum with an increase in the
number of applicants for the common law admission test (CLAT) over the years.
Surpassing past 9 years record this year, more than 45040 law aspirants from across 20
cities have applied for the CLAT 2016.
The law exam is scheduled to be held on May 8 at over 170 centres in the country.
Last year, 39686 applicants had applied for the centralized online exam.
This year, the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, would conduct
the exam.
CLAT is a centralized test, which is held to give admission to 17 prominent National Law
Universities in India.
The total number of applications received for LLB, an under graduate (UG) course is
39,468 and for LLM, which is a Post Graduate (PG) course is 5,572.
Also, in 2015, a huge number of applications were received, as many as 39,686 (34,172
for UG and 5,514 for PG) and were called highest of that time. According to the CLAT
official website, an astounding increase of 200 percent was noticed in the number of CLAT
applicants between the years 2008 and 2015.
However, this year, the number of applications has exceeded that of last year's (2015) by
5,354.
