The louredo´s mill route. Ézaro. Dumbría
1. A bit of history:
There are many water mills that can be seen in Ézaro, though the last
one, which gives name to the route, the Louredo´s Mill is the one that
is restored. The mills have inherited his names from the nicknames of
their owners, of his ages or from singular names such as: Rejacha Mill,
Roque Mill, the Old Mill or the Moíña Mill among others.
This location had to be ideal to the honey. As a matter of fact, there are
remains of former beehives of stone next to the Louredo´s, even new
beehives can be seen near the mill.
Normally, the mill belongs to several owners. Each family has assigned
a day to be going to grind the corn. In case of not being able to come
in his day, they had to wait to the next week.
The stretch of the river where are mills, it was also used to wash the
bed clothes; it is to say, the sheets and blankets putting them to
“clareo”1
.
Several years ago, the water movement was used in the factories.
Nowadays, the reservoirs are used to the electricity production in the
Hydroelectric Power Stations, such as you can see next to the
Waterfall of Ézaro.

To put the wet and soaped clothes to the sun. In order that, the stains disappear because the ray of sunlight impact directly to this.
Functioning of the mill:
The water of the river was gathered by canals, which were adopting a funnel
form near the building. The reason why it had this singular form was to give it
major velocity to the water.
In fact, this major velocity turned into high force to make turn the axis.
Moreover, this axis turned a stone called “moa” that was grinding the corn
against another stone called “feet”. As a result people obtained the cornmeal.
