complex MSP environment

Shopping for a new monitoring tool
OneNeck has since long used various monitoring systems, but the business' rapid development put
greater demands on functionality and scalability. This initiated an internal project to implement
Merlin, a community version of the monitoring system op5 Monitor is based on.
The implementation project soon grew in complexity, it took longer than expected and encountered
severe performance problems. Furthermore, the efforts to make an integration with the existing
customer portal turned out to be a rather complicated undertaking. After some time OneNeck
decided to contact op5 to get the project on its feet.
After a preliminary study conducted by op5, OneNeck decided to give up Merlin and instead base its
new monitoring system on op5 Monitor Enterprise, a packaged product that handles integration with
other systems in a standardized way.
Solving performance issues
With op5 Monitor the project team could quickly reduce the level of complexity and the
performance problems got a definitive solution. The system was optimized and a sustainable
integration with the customer portal could be created thanks op5's experience. The integration is
now easy to manage in a way that is immune to problems during future upgrades. The
implementation is also fully redundant for continuous operation upon failure of servers and
communication links.
2. Complex environment
To look at the bigger picture, OneNeck has a large and highly heterogeneous environment, a mix of
hardware, storage solutions, virtualization platforms and network environments. The complexity is
further driven by all the different customer environments managed by OneNeck.

invest in op5 Monitor. Thanks op5's extensive know-how, we also got an implementation that allows
us to leverage the system's capabilities in a optimal way," said Paul Zalewski, CTO at OneNeck.
Resilient system
During the stress tests conducted in the deployment phase, op5 Monitor showed far better
performance than OneNeck had dared hope for. It was largely a result of the efforts to optimize the
environment for OneNeck's specific usage scenario. Even the redundancy functionality proved to
exceed all expectations during these tests.
After the deployment phase op5 arranged a follow-up workshop to secure efficient operations and
management of the new monitoring system.
