3. Southeast Woodlands In the Southeast Woodlands near the Smoky Mountains there are beautiful lands. A lot of this is beautiful land is the forest. The temperature and amount of rain is just right for growing crops. Since the soil is so good you could grow many gardens. This growing land is filed with streams, valleys and fields. There are also many tall mountains. One of the tribes that lived in this wonderful land was the Cherokee. This is a picture of the Smoky Mountains. This is a picture of the Smoky Mountains. 2

4. The Cherokee food The Cherokee had a grand amount of delicious food. They grew food in their gardens , hunted deer and bear in the forest, and speared fish in the rivers and streams. Some of the things that they grew in the gardens were beans, squash, corn and gourds. Sometimes they hollowed the gourds for storage. Also when they had to they ate nuts. This is a basket that is like the ones that the Cherokee made. 3 These are the foods that the Cherokee ate.

5. Cherokee homes The Cherokee tribe mostly had log cabins but some were made with woven rivercane. Unlike some other tribes the Cherokee had warmth in the winter. They had fireplaces and chimneys. Some of the other houses had rounded roofs and were mad of mud. There were not many of those. Usually families and relatives lived together. This is a picture of river cane that the Cherokee used to weave with. 4

6. Cherokee Clothes The Cherokee wore deer and bear skin clothing. After the settlers came they traded and got cloth. With the cloth they made skirts that went down to there ankles and button-up shirts. The Cherokee had many accessories. They beaded their own jewelry and wore a lot of it. Sometimes they wore scarves as belts. Also the chiefs wore headdresses. At festivals a lot of people wore coyote skins. This is a few of the cloths that the Cherokee wore. 5 This is a head dress that the chief Cherokee wore in the festivals.

7. Cherokee farming The Cherokee say that the great spirits gave them their wonderful land. Because they had a lot to do they shared all the work. They made all the supplies they needed for farming . Cherokee children went to school. In 1770 the Cherokee had 22,000 cows, 7,600 horses ,46,000 pigs, 2,943 plows , and 172 wagons. 6 This is one of the animals that the Cherokee had. These are the different animals that the Cherokee had.
