Make the argument that modern social sharing helps drive pageviews but its impersonal. Tweeting and posting to facebook walls are fundamentally broadcast operations; I don’t know who will see them, when they will see them, or whether they will even click on the links.
First point – real time will make you spend a lot more time on a site. When you are talking to someone about a site, both your time on the site and the conversation about it become longerWe’ve also found that the higher the quality the interaction between people, the longer they spend talking to each other. See chart on the relation of MOS score to talk time. Translating this to social sharing – if voice and video were something easy to do, people would spend more time on a site, and if the call quality increases, they spend even more time.
Real-time brings investment.34% of S2S are video – video is all about getting people invested. When you add that sort of investment to a site, people stay longer, they interact with the content, the content becomes meaningful to them. For example, imagine spending time with a friend together on a travel Web site while planning a trip. You’ve got a lot more invested in that particular site. It’s not hard to imagine you’re more likely to actually book there, and that you may come back more readily for future bookings.
Real-time creates interactivity.Consuming content together in real-time makes the passive “consumption” interactive.
