SOL Standard: 6.4 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry. a) Identify the elements of narrative structure, including setting, character, plot, conflict, and theme. Explanation: Students will become introduced to the components of a tall tale. Principles: Organization, Emphasis, Unity, Legibility, Simplicity

SOL Standard: 6.4 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry. a) Identify the elements of narrative structure, including setting, character, plot, conflict, and theme. 6.5 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of informational selections. a) Identify questions to be answered. Explanation: Students will view visuals to help relate to what a tall tale character may look like or act like. Principles: Clarity, Unity, Balance, Simplicity
  4. SOL Strand: 6.4 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry. a) Identify the elements of narrative structure, including setting, character, plot, conflict, and theme. Explanation: Students will take part in an activity that allows them to read a tale tale and analyze the information using the matrix provided. Principles: Simplicity, Organization, Legibility

SOL Strand: 6.5The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of informational selections. b) Make, confirm, or revise predictions. d) Draw conclusions and make inferences based on explicit and implied information. f) Compare and contrast information about one topic contained in different selections. Explanation: Students will use the matrix attached to dissect their tall tale. I will use this to explain my expectations. Principles: Organization, Unity, Framing, Clarity, Simplicity, Point of View

SOL Standard: 6.5 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of informational selections. e) Organize the main idea and details to form a summary. f) Compare and contrast information about one topic contained in different selections. Explanation: This is a great chart to show the differences between tall tale characters. Principles: Legibility, Harmony, Balance, Simplicity, Organization, Point of View, Perspective
  7. SOL Standard:6.2 The student will listen critically and express opinions in oral presentations. b) Compare and contrast viewpoints. Explanation: This chart is a great way to see what students thought of the tall tales. These are the top three choices from two of my blocks. Principles: Simplicity, Perspective, Legibility, Framing, Point of View
